I thought we had moved past this trend of news quoting anonymous US government officials who claim Russia is interfering in ‘X’ country but apparently I thought wrong. uk.reuters.com/article/uk-chi…

Has it occurred to anyone that anonymous Trump admin State Dept officials might not be trustworthy? Does any and every statement they release go out on the international wire service or is there some level of vetting/confirming such claims that happens?
Claiming Russia is interfering in 'x' country/social unrest is also a form of interference. And when such a claim goes out in the US media it's arguably more influential than anything Russia could do.
