If the likes of Morrison, Trump, Johnson, Putin and Modi had any leadership qualities, they would say "Catastrophes like Australia's will happen around the world unless we act immediately and decisively on climate breakdown." Instead they shrug and carry on as usual.
You look for signs of concern, alarm, human decency or empathy. But nothing stirs in the eerie deserts of their minds.
Due to the total failure of global leadership on climate action, we will have to step up this year even more than we did in 2019, with mass protests and strikes, new tactics and perspectives, keeping this issue at the forefront. It's a long and weary road, but we must tread it.
