Says in total 1500 vineyard hectares affected by fire in the country. 648 ha in Adelaide Hills where in some places has been “complete devastation”. But Barclay still v early to say what long term impact will be on eco systems and smoke taint on current vintage in affected areas
But a lot of research in Australia on how to recover from fires/smoke taint & long term impact on soils/ vines which is being shared with winemakers: Laura Jewell MW stresses that a vine affected by smoke in one year will “clean” itself so won’t be affected for the following year
Overall impact on wine industry might be physically limited to 1500ha out of 150,000 but the industry as a whole is rallying around those that are and will continue to do say S Barclay. Thanks UK trade & calls on it to buy/sell & support going forward @wine_australia @TheBuyer11
