Zuckerberg is right on regulation on accountability by govs. He is wrong eschewing corporate responsibility for making the platform better. He can't use argument of free speech when much of the issue surrounds refusal to regulate paid for content by bad, often wealthy actors
Zuckerberg is actually making against against extreme free market liberalism where gov does not interfere, yet he is only saying this precisely because he knows the incumbent President is not going to intervene. He is therefore advocating a solution he knows is unlikely
So while there is truth in what Zuckerberg says, it appears to be disingenuous. If the government won't act, why doesn't Facebook lobby for it- as is tradition in the US. Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't see Facebook demanding tighter regs for soc media platforms
Where it becomes more difficult is the global reach of Facebook. This reach increases the responsibility of the corporation to do due diligence in countries where it could be instrumentalised as a weapon (which it is ). It also means that states need to have appropriate
Legal safeguards in place before they freely allow commercial actors who have publically denounced responsibility for regulating dangerous content to operate in their borders. Of course states will exploit this argument to attack free speech, but that is a separate argument
