/IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON GREEN LINE FOR RESIDENTS IN NORTH CENTRAL CALGARY! This information will be of interest to residents in Wards 2, 3 & 4 and northern Ward 7 where we have no rapid transit options in existence or in any immediate plans. #greenlineyyc
/There are Green Line pop up sessions and some open houses taking place over the next few weeks. Presently, north central Calgary has been provided a glimmer of hope through an investment in “BRT enhancements” as part of Stage 1 in the Green Line plan.
/These "enhancements" materialized because I have been fighting for the north for my first two years on Council. But this is not enough - you can’t “enhance” something that doesn't exist. We have express bus service through the 301, but it is not a proper BRT route.
/We have an opportunity to push for more & demand that the busiest transit corridor in the city (along Centre Street) be given the upgrades that have been needed for decades. We need to ensure that a proper BRT plan, with dedicated bus lanes on Centre Street, is part of Stage 1.
/The problem with the north central part of the Green Line is that no funding or plan for acquiring properties was put into place when the Centre Street alignment was approved. Due to a lack of advocacy in the north, we fell behind in enabling works needed to build the LRT north
/It will take at least 10-20 years to get the land assembly done and funding in place to bring the Green Line LRT north if we carry on with business as usual. But, we can take advantage of the existing right-of-way in all of Ward 3 that was designed to accommodate rapid transit.
/We can find less expensive & more timely solutions to carry BRT down Centre Street through plans for dedicated lanes. While it may not be the LRT we were promised, the BRT option is less costly and more timely, helping move more north central Calgarians by rapid transit.
/The Green Line should have been contemplated as a multimodal transit plan from the start. That would have allowed for proper mode progression along the route. This is our chance to revisit the benefits of a multimodal solution.
/I need you to be advocates & attend one of the in-person sessions and/or complete the online survey and ask for a proper BRT solution in north central Calgary as part of Stage 1 of the Green Line. I’ll keep advocating in Council but I can’t do this without your voices.
/Pop up sessions close to us in Ward 3 are:

Wednesday, February 26 at Vivo from 3-7 pm

Saturday, February 29 at Thornhill Aquatic Centre from 10 am - noon
