Does #historyrepeatitself?

Does history merely #echoitself?

Pointless presidential candidate @TomSteyer declares that he will attack #climatechange beginning on Day 1 of his #presidency.
The video of his remarks at a CNN town hall shine a light on his plans:

Yes.

@TomSteyer just announced that he would dictate from the #WhiteHouse, using "the Executive emergency powers of the presidency," "how [companies] can generate electricity, what kind of cars they can build, what kind of buildings we’re gonna have...”
By executive order after the presidential declaration of an emergency.

No.

Really.

Tom "Harry Truman" Steyer will take control of power companies, car companies, construction companies. That is, if he is elected and if he is to be believed.
But let's play the hypothetical out.

January 20, 2021, 12:30 pm.

After taking the oath of office and rendering his first inaugural address, #PresidentSteyer turns to an aid, who hands him a portfolio containing the necessary documents.
On top of the pile, @TomSteyer sees his #PresidentialEmergencyDeclaration finding that the climate crisis is a national emergency.

Steyer signs the declaration.

Beneath it are three, significantly bulkier, documents.
These are Executive Orders directing relevant government departments to take control of American three US industrial sectors: electricity generation, automobile manufacturing, and construction.
His first order directs the Secretary of Energy to seize electricity generation companies. Under the EO, management of those companies are coerced to act as agents for the USA. Under the EO, President Steyer directs that the electric companies transition to renewable energy.
His second order directs the Secretary of Commerce to seize American automotive manufacturers. Under this EO, company managers now acting as government agents, are directed to discontinue the manufacture of gas and diesel vehicles.
The second order also imposes a 500% tariff on gas and diesel fueled imports from other nations to the US.
The third executive order directs the Secretary of Commerce to seize America's construction companies. The managers of those companies are compelled by the order to remain in their positions. Now they will act as government functionaries.
This executive order compels these construction managers to discontinue any construction projects that are not independently certified to be carbon neutral and green energy compliant.
The breadth and depth of #PresidentSteyer's actions may seem stunning.
But that's because you don't remember the #SteelSeizureCase.
Late 1951, labor negotiations were failing and the possibility of a national strike against steel manufacturers was clear.

In the face of the possible harm a strike might inflict on the US, #HarryTruman issued an Order directing the seizure of American steel manufacturers.
By a vote of 6 to 3, #SCOTUS struck down #HarryTruman's seizure order and control of the steel manufacturers was immediately returned to their owners.

There's a lesson hidden inside history and the history of law.

Sadly, @TomSteyer has forgotten, or never learned, that lesson.
