I see in parenting groups parents not wanting to seek diagnosis for their children to not "label" them ASD or ADHD. Here are some labels I recieved not having a diagnosis. Lazy. Weird. A Failure. Daydreamer. Manipulative. Attention seeker. Odd. Self-centred. #ActuallyAutistic
These labels given to me due to an expectation I behave neurotypical was damaging to me. Far more so then the "label" ASD or ADHD. I believed I was a useless person before my diagnosis. #adultadhd
Learning about my neurodiversity helped me understand myself and give me self the compassion I deserved. I am not lazy. I just struggle to focus due to a neurological condition. I am not manipulative. I get huge sensory overhwelm which causes meltdowns. #ActuallyAutistic
Denying your child an assessment, a possible diagnosis and an understanding of who they are and why they struggle isn't protecting them from being labeled. They will still be labeled. It is just those labels will significantly impact their self esteem instead. #AskingAutistics
Let your children know, embrace and be happy about who they are. #autismacceptance
It is ok to be autistic. It is ok to be ADHD. These are not "labels" we need to shield our children from #Autism #adhd
