New York up to 76 cases- 11 in NYC, says @NYGovCuomo. That is +7 in NYC since yesterday, 2 from a cruise, 5 community spread.
Nursing homes, assisted living, senior housing in New Rochelle suspending outside visitors.
Cuomo says some people on voluntary quarantine are not following the rules. He says it does not honor your responsibility as a citizen. If you do not comply, there are other measures the state may take.
Cuomo says price gouging and scams are still a problem. Says eBay and Facebook are on notice- "would eBay and Facebook, without getting into a whole philosophical problem about freedom on the internet, just police your sites"
For anyone paying attention this means numbers here have roughly doubled again since yesterday.
Cuomo: "CDC is a bottleneck. CDC caught flatfooted, slowing down the state"... "finally they allowed the state to do it's own testing".... "took a long time to get approval" for outside testing. Next approval is for robotic, automated testing.
Cuomo on CDC: "it's one thing you don't do anything to help us, but at least don't handcuff us."
Cuomo has declared an emergency. Will be doing hiring to help with housing, quarantine checks. Says it will be labor intensive.
"We want to find positives....that's good news, we know who the people are.... that is the point of the exercise. The more tests the better."
"76 cases in New York. 10 hospitalized. That's about 15%. About 20% will be sick enough to require hospitilization."
The state has conducted hundreds of tests, says Cuomo. Says we will have thousands soon. "I would test as many people as you can test."
"The CDC is not helpful here... the CDC said it's up to your doctor. At the same time the VP says we don't have the capacity.... now you created a real problem. You invited people in, you can't serve them... that makes people nervous."
"You know what's worse than the virus? Anxiety. Fear. Confusion." ... "As our capacity to test grows, we will expand the number of people we test."
"If you are a senior citizen or are immune compromised, I would think seriously about attending a large gathering."
New Rochelle is presently the epicenter in New York. Expect closures, cancellations.
Says he is studying what China did. Says repeatedly they were very aggressive. Uses the word aggressive a dozen times. Says closures and required quarantines is what works. "Now see that's easier to do in China... would be bad for economy... but there is no doubt mass quarantine"
