Effective immediately Alberta government is asking all large gatherings or international events in #AB to be cancelled.
This relates to events with more than 250 attendees.
Dr Hinshaw is advising albertans against travel outside of the country.
Schools and daycares can remain open but schools encouraged to avoid all school events.
Hinshaw says they are considering whether schools should be cancelled, acknowledges it would be disruptive.
Hinshaw says risk of getting #coronavirus in #ab remains low but what has changed is international travelers will bring in cases of the virus.
Any albertan who is traveling outside of the country is being told to self isolate for 14 days.
To be clear: This is not retroactive, it is just starting now.
From Edmonton Public Schools following this afternoon’s update: “Our Division is now asking schools to limit large gatherings, such as open houses, for the time being and encouraging schools to provide more physical space between students whenever possible.”
To clarify, what has changed is the concern international travelers will continue to bring cases back to #ab
Also, there are four new cases today. One involving a child, a 2 year old who returned from Florida. The child attended daycare from March 2-6 and tested positive March 11. Daycare has temporarily closed.
The four new cases are all from the #yyc zone and all are travel related.
As for whether the measures of all international travelers self isolating should have been enacted earlier, Hinshaw says the timing is never taken lightly and today officials feel it is appropriate.
