Story being rightly criticised as a ridiculous way for a government to communicate in a national emergency. Content rightly or wrongly reinforces a view of UK government being dragged to do what other countries are doing.
Medical officers are doing their best I feel. Feels like centre of government (PM, ministers, advisers) still playing silly games and then hiding. Leading politicians need to show they have a grip.
Pretty unconvinced by the way that isolating only the over-70s is sensible policy. Sounds like another poorly thought through gimmick. Anyway that's the House of Lords closed if this is the plan. itv.com/news/2020-03-1…
Given we seem to be a few days behind other countries it seems likely that bars and restaurants will soon be closed, and we'll be advised not to travel abroad. Government by following the Guardian live feed on coronavirus.
Absolutely right on first part - in this together or not at all. Isolating the over 70s is inhumane. Don't think its to protect the economy though, genuinely don't think government has yet realised the scale of what is happening. They're in denial.
And this on government handling. Come on, time to step up.
On the contrary think the 'war footing' is probably right. Just that government has to do this as well. Public concerns are rightly high and not met by selective journalist briefings.
