Robert Jendrick is talking about the 1.5 million most vulnerable people. He says the NHS will be contacting them, urging them "to stay inside for a period of a minimum 12 weeks".
RJ: "Others in the household will not be required to adopt these shielding measures. However they must follow social distancing measures."
RJ: "Medicines will be delivered by local pharmacies. Groceries will be delivered by local councils and community workers."
Just to be crystal clear: those at risk will be "asked" to do this.

Presumably so that afterwards, if they die, the Government can say "Well, we told you to stay indoors..."

One lesson we kinda sorta knew already has been brought into sharp relief by the coronavirus crisis:

Hedge funds and vulture capitalists make Tim Martin and Mike Ashley look like angels.

Any business they own is a black box, nothing more. Doesn't pump out money? Cut it. Axe it.
All those lovely 100, 150, 200 year old firms that we think of as the backbone of the high street?

Many were already walking dead before the virus, doomed the moment their original owners flipped them to a hedge fund and ran off into the sunset with a bag of loot.
At least Tim Martin and Mike Ashley, for all their many many many faults, fancy themselves business owners. In the back of their minds, there's a tiny hint of a desire to preserve something for the future, even if it's well disguised by rapacious greed.

You may be thinking of South Korea as one of the "epicentres" of the coronavirus pandemic. But that's mainly because they got it early, so monopolised news coverage. In fact, they have seen just 120 deaths, compared to 336 in the UK so far...

Even if you adjust the figures for the difference in population, the UK has experienced 2.11x as many deaths as South Korea. So next time you're tempted to think of them as part of the problem, maybe refocus your gaze closer to home?
BTW, the contrast for Japan is even more stark. Japan is another country that got talked about a lot in the press at the beginning of the pandemic. But they've suffered just 42 deaths. Adjusted for population size, the UK has experienced 14.9x more deaths than Japan.

According to @flightradar24 the number of daily flights worldwide is plunging. Not surprising really, but this graph really hammers it home. (You might also argue that 95,000-odd flights in a day is still a lot... but it's a long way from the average of 160,000-170,000 a day!)
BTW, this has consequences not just for passengers, but for freight too. After all, a huge amount of air freight is carried in the hold of passenger planes. That compounds the losses to the aviation industry.

For those of you who don't have a Telegraph subscription, here are the main points.

It calls for dramatic action, at home and abroad, of the kind not normally seen in peacetime."

Then goes on to express sadness at 21 deaths. All victims had underlying health conditions.

Hancock claims we have a plan "based on the expertise of world-leading scientists" and that #HerdImmunity is not a part of it.

"The over-riding objective is to protect life."

[Note: Telegraph earlier reported #coronavirusuk could be a way to *cull* the elderly...🙄)

We’ll get an update on coronavirus and the state’s response any minute from Colorado Gov. Jared Polis. I’ll thread here.
Gov. Polis says Colorado is now up to 72 positive cases of coronavirus. At least four are evidence of community spread, Polis says. Community spread confirmed in Denver area. 3 people in Colorado are in critical condition, Polis says.
“It is just a matter of time under we do have our first fatality here in Colorado,” the governor says.
