2) NL often stresses the importance of the SGP, because it helps to build buffers for difficult times. However, we were among the first to articulate the logic of flexibly applying the SGP due to Corona. 3/5
3/ It is good that the Commission is re-allocating money to Corona-related issues, but more is both possible and needed. We have asked the Commission to come up with proposals for this. 4/5
4/ We support the permanent rescue fund ESM, which plays a critical role as the lender of last resort. The combination of funding & reforms made it so successful. As we don’t know what is ahead of us, we deem it wise to keep this in our armory, and use it as intended. 5/5
