🚩#Thread: Shrimant Thorle Bajirao: The Expansionist Peshwa🚩

I pay my humble tributes to one of India’s greatest cavalry generals, a man who fought 41 battles and is reputed to have lost none, on his 320th Birth Anniversary.

The death of Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj’s first #Peshwa & Bajirao’s father, Balaji Vishwanath left the #Chhatrapati in doubt. Several of his advisors advised him not to handover the premiership to Bajirao.

From a very young age, #Bajirao used to accompany...

...his father on expeditions & diplomatic missions. Hence, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj was convinced that Bajirao was the right person to overthrow the Nizam.

On 17th April, 1720, a 19-year-old Bajirao became the Peshwa of the #MarathaEmpire.

History #india

Only an insecure citizen will vilify a period of history, as rich and complex as #Mughal rule.

This demonstrates a vacuum of confidence and an inherent inadequacy in their own ability, to accept or understand the dynamics that created modern #India.

A #thread on the #Mughals:
1. The #Mughals, as they are erroneously called, were descended from Temur (aka Tamberlane, Tamerlane), in a direct patrilineal line and from Chengiz Khan in a direct matrilineal line.

They identified themselves with their Timurid heritage.
#TheGreatMughals
2. Babur, like all Mughals felt a legitimate claim on Hindustan after its conquest in 1398-99, by Temür, which effectively ended the already tottering Tughlaq Sultanate, following the fall of Delhi.
Not until 1451 and the rise of the Lodis (under Bahlul Khan), did Delhi recover.

Fed up with this #Maratha Supremacism spamming my TL & I am forced to right a Thread on Real Face of Marathas
1. Marathas did try to establish their rule in Bengal by callin Zamindars for Hindu Unity, bt they wer so outraged by Maratha Atrocities that they Rejected any Such call
2. Contemporary European (English & Dutch) accounts claim that #Marathas killed around 4 Lakh people in just one invasion of Bengal (Mostly Hindus).

The fear of Maratha Raid Was so grave that people used to leave their Homes even on False Alarms.
#Marathas Used to Fill Nostrils of Poor Hindus with Water when they were unable to pay required money.

Many were drowned in tanks, many died of suffocation.

This is interesting. #Aurangzeb joined hands with his brother Murad and defeated Darashukoh at Samugarh and then at Mathura arrested Murad before declaring himself Emperor. He arrested ShahJahan by blocking Yamuna water to the city. Interesting. Blockade to win.
Dara was declared apostate and murdered by slaves as per Islamic laws in Delhi and Murad was killed at the charge of murder of some random man in Gujarat. Shuja was pushed further from Bengal and he ran away to Myanmar. He and his family was killed by the Burmese king.
In April 1669, #Aurangzeb ordered provincial governors to destroy all the temples and schools of infidels. Vishwanath was pulled down in August 1669, Keshav Rai temple in Mathura was razed to ground in January, 1670 and a mosque was built. Idols were broken and buried under steps

To legitimise ones claim on the #Mughal throne, Khutba had to be read in ones name in the Friday prayers and a Sikka (Coin) had to be struck. Heres a thread of the coins struck in the name of Mughal Emperors with their names highlighted.
