Now that the glorification of #Mughals is finally being struck down from Indian history textbooks, here are some important events that need to be included in: Image
1) Destruction of Nalanda to remind Hindus of how the ahimsa philosophy didn't help monks at their hour of need and how it is important to arm oneself and train in the art of war and defence. Pacifism does not work in the real world and will get you killed. Image
2) Second Battle of Tarain to remind the Hindus that even if you spare your enemy, the enemy will not spare you so finish off your enemies when the chance is at hand. The "granting abhaya to sharanāgat" attitude doesn't work with Samuday Vishesh. Image

Today marks the 316th death-anniversary of Badshāh Muhi-ud Dīn Muhammad #Aurangzeb Alamgīr (R.A.).
His long reign (1658-1707) consolidated the largest and wealthiest land-empire in Indian #history and was arguably the most socially-diverse dispensation to ever rule #India.
Even critics of Aurangzeb (R.A.), such as the historian Sir Jadunath Sarkar concede, "Aurangzeb’s Indian empire was vaster than that of Ashoka, Samudragupta, & Harshavardhan”.
@Timurid_Mughal.

It was in his reign too that #Ladakh was amalgamated into the #Mughal empire.f
The reign of Aurangzeb (R.A.) was based on 3 pillars:

1. Military expansion.
2. Islamic jurisprudence and a centralised justice system.
3. Adherence to his Indo-Timurid heritage.

This helped consolidate his empire, but it also depended on his persona for sustained success.

#IndiraPriyadarshini perpetuated immorality in the Nehru dynasty. Intellectual Indira was admitted in Oxford University but driven out from there for non performance. She was then admitted to Shantiniketan but, #RabindranathTagore chased her out for her bad conduct.
After driven out of Shantiniketan, Indira became lonely as father was busy with politics and mother was dieing of tuberculosis in Switzerland. Playing with her loneliness, #FerozeKhan, son of a grocer named Nawab Khan who supplied wines etc to Motilal Nehru's house in Allahabad!
He was able to draw close to her. The then Governor of Maharashtra, Dr. Shriprakash warned Nehru, that Indira was having an illicit relation with Feroze Khan. Feroze Khan was then in England and he was quite sympathetic to Indira. Soon enough she changed her religion!

#DidYouKnow that the Nassak #Diamond, one of the 20 greatest diamonds in the world, is named after the city of Nashik in Maharashtra? Emerging from the famed Golconda mines, it adorned the crown of Lord Shiva in the Trimbakeshwar #Temple near Nashik. 1/4
#jewellery #minerals
As with most of the world’s most valuable #gems, the Nassak too has a dramatic story. It was originally with the #Mughals, who acquired it during their conquest of Golconda in the 17th century. Then they surrendered it as war booty to the #Marathas. 2/4
The Nassak was probably donated to the Trimbakeshwar temple by the Peshwas. In 1817, it was removed by Peshwa Bajirao II, who kept it in his personal treasure. Bajirao II surrendered it to the #British, who seized it when they defeated the Marathas a year later. 3/4

#Hindu #Funerary Monuments - Chhatri

Chhatri is a memorial chapel built over a #tomb found throughout the region of #Rajasthan, #MadhyaPradesh and #Maharashtra. These memorials commemorate the death of rulers, their consorts, relatives and the elite. 1/🧵
If Samadhis were funerary monuments of saints in #Hindus, Chhatris were #Rajput's choice of the memorial. They made sure that the memory of the chivalry of their ancestors passed on to the next generations. Though, all Chhatris did not necessarily contain the mortal remains. 2/
Chhatri i.e. umbrella, first appeared as a canopy above the tomb in #Islamic #architecture. #Hindu kings transformed the tomb into Chhatri. By the 16th C, Rajput courts had started building Chhatris. It was a place where a noble was cremated, memorialized and later worshipped. 3/

1/n Let’s see in thread how people across ages have seen economic condition of India.

Let’s begin with François Bernier’s records in his work “Travels in the Mogul Empire.”

“There was no middle state. A man must be of the highest rank or live miserably.”
2/n Then he writes:

“Most towns in Hindustan are made up of earth, mud, and other wretched material; that there is no city or town (that) does not bear evident marks of approaching decay.”
3/n He goes on to add info of situation in Timurid (Moghul Empire):

“In eastern countries, the weak and the injured are without any refuge whatever; and the only law that decides all controversies is the cane and the caprice of a governor.”

Who is JAGAT SETH??

India's richest person from whom the #British & #Mughals used to borrow money. Before British rule, our country used to be 'Sone ki Chidiya' due to our rich kings & princely states whose treasuries were full. There was no poverty.
There were such people in India in the 17th-18th century to whom the Mughals & British Empire kept bowing their heads for money. One such household was the 'Jagat Seth' Gharana of Murshidabad, #Bengal. They were originally from #Rajasthan
Jagat Seth was a title given to Fatehchand ji in 1723 AD by Mughal emperor Muhammad Shah. Since then this entire gharana became famous as 'Jagat Seth'. It was considered to be the richest banker's house of those times.
