I disagree with this because Trump says ridiculous, damaging things in every context. The fact Trump gets himself in trouble in response to the softest softballs doesn't mean the questions were good - he also gets himself in trouble rambling to himself.
There are tons of critical fact-finding questions that have never been put to Trump on the theory - held by lots of journalists outside Fox too - that it's better just to get him rambling than to push back on anything. I think there can be a much better mix.
This is a debate about what a presidential interview Is For: Producing a lot of news? Letting people hear what he's thinking? Uncovering facts? Challenging his acts, assumptions and deceptions? I'd just argue the balance with Trump has tipped way too far away from the latter two.
