It's time to get Jeff Bezos, the Waltons and other billionaires who won't pay a living wage off of welfare. Today I'm introducing legislation to give them a choice: pay workers a living wage, or pay for the public assistance your low-wage workers rely on.

If employers in this country simply paid workers a living wage, taxpayers would save about $150 billion a year on federal assistance programs and millions of workers would be able to live in dignity and security.
Let's be clear: the government has a moral responsibility to provide for the vulnerable. But taxpayers should not have to expend huge sums of money subsidizing profitable corporations owned by some of the wealthiest people in the country and the world.

Today President Trump, in a rambling and dishonest statement, tried to defend the despotic Saudi regime and cast doubt on the CIA’s conclusion that the crown prince was personally involved in the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.
Trump also blamed Iran for the disastrous war in Yemen, despite the fact that the Saudi-led coalition has caused the most destruction by far.
Trump is clearly very afraid of the prospect of the Senate delivering a serious rebuke to his policy by voting to end U.S. support for the Yemen war. But that is exactly what we will do when we vote on SJ Res 54 next week.

The FBI investigation of Brett Kavanaugh must include a review of his numerous untruthful statements in his previous testimony before Congress. Lying to Congress is a federal crime.

Here are his statements that appear to not be true: (1/x)
Kavanaugh was asked more than 100 times if he knew about files stolen by Republican staffers from Judiciary Committee Democrats. He said he knew nothing. Newly released emails show that these files were regularly shared with Kavanaugh while he was on the WH staff. (2/x)
In 2006 Kavanaugh told Congress he didn't know anything about the NSA warrantless wiretapping program prior to it being reported by the NYT. This year an email revealed that while at the White House he might have been involved in some conversations about this program. (3/x)

I thank @jaketapper for admitting his “fact check” on Medicare for All was not factual and editing his video.

Sadly, Tapper's video on Medicare for All along with other “fact checks” is riddled with errors peddled by the Koch-funded Mercatus Center. Let's go through them:
1) We correctly state that the Mercatus report found that the American people would save $2 trillion over 10 years under Medicare for All. That finding is right here in Table 2 of the Mercatus study.
2) Tapper says, “The study’s author says that that $2 trillion drop is not actually his conclusion. He says that’s based on assumptions by Senator Sanders.” Wrong. Provider payment rates in our plan are not assumptions, they are written into the bill...

I was out running errands and decided to stop at Whole Foods to grab something quick for lunch. This WF happens to be next to a TJ Maxx, and this man was hanging around outside.

Jeff Bezos talks about how he's going to spend his money - to fight homelessness and to fund early stage schools in deprived communities. Both of these are admirable goals and both things I support. However, it remains a problem to me that government is not doing these things.
(I should declare a vague interest in that I argued for some targeted help for LGBT youth, who represent 25-40% of homeless youth, are twice as likely to attempt suicide, twice as likely to succeed and 95% of whom report daily homophobic/transphobic language at school.)
I do think we're in a sorry state though when the public school system is so underfunded in America that we have to rely on the good nature of billionaires to give the next few generations a decent education.

Give universal basic income and watch the GDP go through the roof. Everybody who does business is doing more business. Demand goes up. Supply goes up. Rising tide lifts all boats.
The rightwing in this country has spent decades chasing cars on the principle that it plays well, and right now a lot of what is happening is that the generations that grew up watching them are now actually catching the cars.

Maybe it takes us a generation of saying "UNIVERSAL BASIC INCOME NOW" for now to get here. Maybe it takes us a hundred years. Maybe it takes us a revolution. Maybe it takes a cataclysm and a new beginning.

Say it anyway. Make a robust social safety nest look like a compromise.

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
