@theNASciences comes from #Casablanca in #Morocco and moved to @UMich for a #PhD on interaction of Mars & Venus atmosphere and solar winds. However, she had a crisis and wanted to give back to her community, and dove into #scipol, #ethics, #economics

She went on to do a Christine Mirzayan S&T fellowship via @aaas, one of the few options available to #international applicants (cc @IWS_Network). Wanting to engage #ECR, she applied for a position @theNASciences, got in, and never looked back #NSPNsymposium18

She now promotes #international development, security, and cooperation with @theNASciences, through #Science #technology and #innovation.

@theNASciences ≠ @NSF! The National academy is independent from govt and provides #scienceadvice and #evidence for #scipol

#NSPNsymposium18 @theNASciences runs consensus studies, convenes experts, and operates many programs incl fellowships. The manage @pnas, and they pool advice and expertise from over 6000 members, all #ProBono, independent, and objective

One notable program that Najib works on @theNASciences is the Arab-American Frontiers of Science, Engineering, and Medicine. This enhances dialogue among 25-35 yr old #ECR in Arab countries and US. This builds leadership & lasting relationships and collaborations #NSPNsymposium18

This is now an intl network, with symposia in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Oman, etc. More than a meeting, it facilitates collaborations & fosters young researcher careers ➡️ many find hosts in other countries, supported by grants + fellowships @theNASciences #NSPNsymposium18

#NSPNsymposium18 @theNASciences is also the host of the InterAcademy Partnership. This is a global network promoting #evidence informed #policy making and capacity building for new science #academies in other countries incl in Africa

#NSPNsymposium18 @theNASciences is also a leader of the #PEER program via @USAID, which links researchers and US funding to international researchers, to collaborate and learn from each other 🙌

This is the last year of the program which incl @NSF @NIH @NASA and more

Are you a young and motivated scientist? Consider attending @theNASEM @theNASciences events! Join impact groups like @GlobalYAcademy! Join committees, serve as a reviewer, etc. There's a broad spectrum btw science and policy, it's not one or the other

Q - is there a plan to renew #PEER @USAID? Will other programs take its place? ➡️ Najib @theNASEM says there is a need, hopefully yes. But, we want to support sustainable development as well in other countries beyond US aid. Partnerships are a strong next step #NSPNsymposium18
