@MattChorley Firstly, Labour has always said No Deal is unacceptable. They tried to prevent it using their queen's speech amendment last year & got substantial cross house support, but fell short because no Tories rebelled. They are going to try again soon.
@MattChorley Secondly, Corbyn said he doesn't know how he would vote because it depends on what was on the ballot paper - which Labour can't control, only 'potentially' influence. Both he and McDonnell have said they would vote Remain (and reform) again.
@MattChorley Thirdly, Labour must push for a general election first. Only once that's off the table would they move on to a referendum. Because a ref only (potentially) sorts the Brexit mess but not everything else - austerity, NHS privatization etc.
@MattChorley Fourthly, wrt the time to negotiate, Keir has already been speaking to EU27 & have a good idea of what will be accepted, but a general election or referendum allows for an extension to A50 so that would have to happen.
@MattChorley Fifthly, if Labour took over negotiations it follows that Labour's own deal would have to pass its six tests. We don't yet know in a general election scenario b4 a people's vote whether they would include a referendum on the deal in their manifesto. But probably a moot point.
@MattChorley Lastly, wrt Remain & reform, Corbyn has been meeting with other progressive parties across Europe to discuss future possibilities for progressive reforms. It wouldn't be overnight.
Their 2017 manifesto was checked against EU rules, so it all could be done within EU.
@MattChorley Those are the main points worth pointing out.
