It is the apathy of the American electorate that is the biggest risk the country faces followed closely by its ignorance, much of it willful. Absent these, there would be no President Trump, no Mitch McConnell,no inaction on healthcare or on global warming, no rampant inequality.
The reason Trump & the Saudis think that time is on their side & that despite the blood on their hands that they will soon be able to resume business as usual is that they are counting on the fact that most Americans just don't seem to care. The NRA counts on the same phenomenon.

Political pundits currently debate whether 2018 was a "wave election" or not. But that misses the point. Once again, even at an incredibly heightened moment in American politics, the big winner in 2018 was not the Democrats or the Republicans.
