Zero Deal explained:
All UK trade deals (World bridge) were concluded through the EU.
So, if you dynamite the EU bridge, the World bridge goes down with it.
What's left (WTO) is better than nothing -barely tho.
And ofc the UK can rebuild bridges.
Will take (lots of) time&efforts.
To illustrate that bit on "building bridges takes a lot of time and efforts, here's a thread to start to grasp what "FTA negotiation" means.

What would be your take on that @MichelBarnier @guyverhofstadt?
Does it sound like something the EU could accept?
If the UK were to ask for the treaties to cease to apply after a condition is fulfilled -namely a solution for NI borders has been found?
(Maybe with a specified period afterwards, like "x months after a solution has been found".)
Would it sort the Withdrawal Agreement/backstop dilemma?

I meant: cld the WA be amended -in acc. w/ Art 50, that does not specify any specific duration for the extension period- to change the fixed date to "the date when a solution for NI borders has been found"?

On the majority of goods imported into the UK tariffs don't apply because they are imported:

1 From EU
2 From FTA partners at 0%
3 From developing countries at 0%
4 Under a tariff quota at 0%
5 On a 0% tariff rating anyway
@_HenryBolton Before the UK joined the EEC in 1973 we had tariffs and quota restrictions on non-Commonwealth and even some Commonwealth goods that were higher than the EEC's Common External Tariff, and after Brexit we will still have tariffs. The Dept of Intl Trade has no plans to reduce them.
@_HenryBolton EU tariff rates are on the more liberal side compared to other nations and because of EU Trade preferences and free trade deals they do mot apply in many cases.

The World Bank published a report on trade preferences a few months ago.

@theresa_may #WithdrawalAgreement is the framework for a future #UK #EU future relationship. Allows for an orderly #Brexit with transition period, but leaves many issues to resolve, trade deals and regulations to negotiate, which will take many years and be costly. No "dividend"!

So the next (and still not final?!) set of #nodeal notices is out. @instituteforgov will of course be diving into the detail so you don't have to - but that's a job for next week

First, here's a thread of some interesting things we've spotted from a quick scan of today's papers:
1 - first up, a line on the #CustomsUnion in the note on exporting mercury - clarification for worried backbenchers?
2 - no deal means no preferential access to the EU market, or to other markets where we currently have access via an EU free trade deal - unless the Govt can roll over those deals before next March. AFAIK, no confirmation that any have been rolled over yet
