[Day1: Strategic SciComm Through Play]
Often times, when talking #SciComm #SciOut #PubEng #SciEng #SciEdu #SciArt, we spend a lot of discussions on the idea of play + joy + fun for target audiences.

As a practitioner, do use "play" to get better in your practice? If not, why?
Do opportunities & spaces to "PLAY" with your craft/skills in communicating #science even exist for you?

For academics, the lack of opportunity to learn+practice+play w/ public speaking significantly impacts careers, like favoritism of "charismatic ppl" to bad teaching habits.
In the #Arts + #SciArt, rehearsals + practice time is crucial in honing your craft.
In #MuseumEd & #projectdevelopment, there are stages for prototyping, focus grouping, beta-testing to "play".

In #Academia, prof dev workshops exist, but do you have a space for practice?
Why "PLAY" to achieve a strategic #scicomm #science practice?

Our lives as academics/practitioners are constantly filled with high-stakes interactions. An unending list of MUSTs, CAN'Ts, SHOULDs. Pressure to be "perfect" w/o a supportive space to fail feeds #ImpostorSyndrome...
I also think that the lack of supportive spaces to fail & play w/ #SciComm also impacts the misconception of "naturally charismatic" speakers (typically cis-male), inequity in #STEM (just watch @chrisemdin talk about #ratchetdemics), and maintaining a status quo of exclusivity.
More importantly, #SciComm "PLAY" matters to me because:

- we all have work/task/personal priorities that come 1st
- but we will also ALWAYS make room for what we personally find fun

Never underestimate the power of being seen worthy of someone else's expendable time & income.
It’s #SciComm CASE STUDY time! Let’s celebrate each others’ efforts & learnings.

🙋🏽‍♀️Pls share a specific moment/project where you used PLAY for #science #scicomm

💁🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️ How has it impacted what you do today?
