I really do think that these discussions about when to have an election should take into account the possibility that if BJ asks for an extension on Oct 17-18 the EU will say no.

Because without a compelling reason to grant an extension — which BJ will hardly provide — that is quite likely to happen.
Perhaps the EU will grant the extension and if they don’t at the Council then perhaps they will change their mind between then and October 31. But people should be thinking about all possible scenarios bearing in mind that there are 27 other players whose decisions count
