This very real, MAGA defense of Trump resembles "the insanity defense" one might use in court--"even if the defendant knew what he or she was doing, he or she is deemed insane where he or she was incapable of recognizing the wrongfulness of the action committed."
Even if we grant that this is a plausible defense of Trump as a human, it's not a great defense of him remaining in office. The inability to discern right from wrong is not exactly a quality one would want in one of the most powerful people in the world.
Here's the other thing...there is plenty of evidence that most of the people around him in his Administration ARE capable of discerning right from wrong. This is reflected in the actions they've taken to protect Trump from himself. Those folks have no defense.
