Some obscure news: the US sister group of the OUN-B, the Organization for Defense of Four Freedoms of Ukraine (ODFFU), founded in 1946, seems to be in crisis because of an apparent power struggle between the national executive in New York City and the international OUN-B network.
Last Saturday an "Extraordinary Convention" of the ODFFU met in Bloomingdale, Illinois to elect a new Board of Directors on the basis of a 2 year delay to do so. A couple leaders from @ICSUkraine, a worldwide coord.comm. of OUN-B affiliated orgs, were named to the new Board.
The "Extraordinary Convention" apparently received the blessings of the leaders of the @UkrCongComAm, the Ukrainian American Youth Association, and the present-day OUN-B (@stefanromaniw), among others.
The new leader of the ODFFU, according to the "Extraordinary Conference," is Mykola Hryckowian Jr. But the National Board of the ODFFU headquartered in NYC "vigorously opposes this purported 'Extraordinary Convention.'"
The last national ODFFU convention was in 2014, with Stepan Kaczurak elected chair of the Board of Directors/president of the ODFFU. Apparently his 2nd deputy, Oles Striltschuk, has since succeeded him (and is no longer US leader of the OUN-B?)
Striltschuk: "The National Board of ODFFU views this as an illegitimate attempt to hijack control of the organization and its assets (including its valuable headquarters building in New York City)." If true, a strong argument that the "Extraordinary Convention" was illegitimate:
Indeed, the National Board of the ODFFU posted letters on its website from a dozen local branches stating they don't recognize the authority of the "Extraordinary Convention." Here are some of them:
This afternoon the National Board of the ODFFU headquartered in NYC is holding an informational meeting about the situation. As Striltschuk warned in his statement, "Being forced into litigation would be an expensive financial burden on ODFFU."
So if Oles Striltschuk isn't the US leader of the OUN-B, who is? Well, according to a source I don't entirely trust, Askold Lozynskyj, former leader of the Ukr. World Congress & @ICSUkraine, is the "puppet master" behind the "Extraordinary Convention."
