I think the UN report is crap, but if you were going to cite it, why wouldn’t it be a story any more just because it was about the Obama admin?

Also, NBC News, Huffpost, and others appear to have made the same mistake and have not corrected.

Correct. The number is the total number of kids who passed through U.S. custody in 2015. As @gabrielmalor points out, the actual number currently in DHS + HHS custody is closer to ~6500.

Yes, the dual loyalty attacks on Vindman are disgusting. I’ll take the criticism of them more seriously from people who don’t excuse antisemitism on their own side.

Ali consistently defended Omar. He only excused bigotry on his own side, but uses antisemitism on the right now as a shield for antisemites on the left. Here was his take when Omar was being called out:

The reason many of us criticize SPLC is they often conflate conservatives with bigots, which is also exactly what Malkin has attempted to do in her defense of actual bigots.

She has actually helped the SPLC efforts to do exactly that.
SPLC has this trick where they do good reporting exposing bigots, then they attempt to place conservative views they don’t like in same category. This smears conservatives and normalizes bigots.

Malkin has tried to do the same in suggesting actual bigots = good conservatives.
In fact, Malkin has actually gone beyond that. She not only refuses to differentiate between conservatives and bigots, but she attacks conservatives who speak out against those bigots. And then she condemns people with slight immigration policy disagreements as the real bad guys.

This is the person who Michelle Malkin is openly defending against criticism and identifying as "patriotic" and a "truth-teller".

This really isn't complicated.
Some people have tried to spin Malkin's actions as her simply not wanting to disavow anyone, but that's not true. In the same speech where she defended Fuentes, she disavowed Republicans who disagreed with her on immigration or on which politicians to support.
In other words, her view is that we can't say anything negative about open racists and antisemites (in fact, she praises them), but we should be very critical of people who have policy differences w her.

Any decent or reasonably intelligent person recognizes that as backwards.
