Why does @UKHomeOffice refuse to engage with us at @the3million about our concerns with settled status?

Why does it keep insisting how successful the scheme is, and almost dismiss as fake news the daily stories of people struggling with it? 1/

Thread. 1/ I have some ideas about a second referendum, and how to try to make it a healing experience rather than a divisive one.

It involves ending uncertainty, being more inclusive, and respecting the previous referendum.

Bear with me.
2/ First, I want to explain why I think a second referendum is both necessary and democratic.

The 2016 referendum was for an abstract concept of Brexit. On the ballot paper was remain (we knew what that meant) and leave (there are different interpretations of what that means).
3/ The difficulty has been in interpreting what version of leave to implement. Anyone who disputes this only needs to see the spectrum of opinions amongst both the population and MPs - ranging from staying in Customs Union / Single Market to leaving without a negotiated deal.

Dear @giles_fraser what an incredibly disingenuous article you have written here, deliberately conflating freedom of movement with taking responsibility for one's parents.

Let me take you through my own situation please. 1/
I am Dutch, and was incredibly lucky to get a place at a British university 35 years ago. Life happened, and I'm now married to a wonderful British man with two daughters.

I travel back to Holland very very frequently to see my widowed mum.

Luckily, through Free Movement, I know (knew) that when the time comes that my mum needs more care from me, I can move to Holland for some years, or I could bring her here for me to look after her here in the UK instead.

Folks including myself have spilled a lot of ink explaining how the #JobGuarantee would end involuntary employment, stengthen worker power, and generally gain us more democratic control over the labor system and society.
It's crucial to remember that this about the quality of jobs as well as the quantity.

No one should have to work a poorly paid job for the same corporate overlords who consistently prey on our families, communities, and democracy.
