[THREAD] In his #UNGA speech, #Trump claimed that “The good people of #Iran want change.” Our survey shows it's not the change he thinks.
New polling by IranPoll/@BourseBazaar, shows support for an economic vision totally opposed to that espoused by #Trump in his speech.
3. The telephone poll of 700 respondents with representation from all 31 provinces, was conducted in Aug 2017.

4. Unlike #Trump, Iranians see #globalization favorably, with 62% believing it has a positive effect worldwide.
5. More impressively, 85% of respondents feel “growing trade and business ties between Iran and other countries” leads to good outcomes.
6. While #Trump frets that economic internationalization threatens jobs and wages, #Iranians believe otherwise.
7. Iranians see multinationals firms having broadly positive effects in the economy, one reason why there remains support for the #IranDeal.
8. A steady 62% of Iranians support the #IranDeal, although 77% have little to no confidence the US will meet its obligations.
9. This despite the fact that 50% of Iranians believe that direct #American investment would have a positive impact on #Iran.
10. This is in part because 80% of #Iranians believe "Made in America" products to be of good or very good quality.
11. Vexingly, 70% feel MNCs are "moving slower than they could" to invest in #Iran. 77% say this is b/c of “fear of the United States.”
12. #Trump began his speech by exalting the Marshall plan, in which the U.S. invested in rebuilding postwar Germany, a vicious foe.
13. The change the Iranian people want is for the US to afford the same engagement to post-sanctions #Iran, or at least not stymie others.
14. Iranians feel at the mercy of many forces, but still they acknowledge end responsibility for the course of their lives.
15. The hallowed American ideals of free enterprise + individualism are more central to the Iranian economic mindset than we often think.
16. #Trump is squandering a historic opportunity, choosing instead to boast contradictorily about values he does nothing to foster.
17. I'd be willing to bet that the change Iranians most want is one in American leadership. An end to cynicism about #Iran and its people.
