In addition to the issues @Suzi3D points out, it's important to highlight a few differences that separate the arch + design of from networks like GETTER and Parler. Short thread.
First, we're taking #decentralization seriously. conversations are committed to a blockchain record which will be shared around the world. Users on the network will communicate and verify each other using peer-to-peer methods and strong encryption.
Second, the network is built upon #respect and empowerment for users. We're making sure your data lives on your device(s), and don't collect or store the kind of sensitive information that has already been breached from GETTR and Parler, not even email.

Most #cryptocurrency exchange owners and #newschannels in #India seem to be pretty much clueless about what the exact definition of a private cryptocurrency is.

Thread continued👇
This confusion and chaos has been driven by the recent #hysteria about the government apparently confused whether to do a #cryptoban or #regulatecrypto.
All those news articles that sprung up about the #fakeban, initially were based upon this generic understanding that all #cryptocurrencies are private in nature.

Threats to share intimate images can have life-threatening consequences and should be criminalised:
Baroness Nicky Morgan: Change revenge porn laws so we 'stop failing women and girls'…
My research with colleagues has also found that almost 1 in 5 people (19%) across the UK, New Zealand and Australia have experienced threats to share intimate images #LifeThreatening…
Reminder that this is not a new issue and there have been campaigns for years to get a change in the law. Here is just one example of where it could have made a difference:…

such a nice dose of congratulations on my timeline, & i am really grateful, but - & this is genuine - i've enjoyed a privileged platform, & any work i've done as SR only had value because of the input of people much braver & more expert than me.
all the way back to my first UN report in 2015, on #encryption & #anonymity, check out the list of orgs submitting ideas & expertise.… that has always been the pattern.
or think about the journalists and defenders and academics and whistleblowers I've met on missions in deeply repressive environments (e.g. #Tajikistan, #Turkey), whose very act of engaging with a UN visitor was/is dangerous.

🛡️ Online #privacy and #anonymity advice for #activists! 🚨 Please RT! 🚨

If you are in the front lines right now, cover your face and prep your phone with extra tools to protect yourself and your friends!

⬇️ For basic starter tools, check out this thread for tips! ⬇️ [1/6]
1. Leave no trace with a #VPN

A VPN hides what you do and what websites you visit from whoever gives the Internet. This could be a Wi-Fi network or your phone carrier.

Not sure where to start? @ProtonVPN has a free tier for activists. [2/6]
2. Protect your messages and your friends' identities with @signalapp.

Signal is a secure messaging app. Like WhatsApp but stores less info about you and your messages.

Best part is disappearing messages. Make messages disappear after 10 mins, 1 hour, 1 day of being read! [3/6]

A thread about how well #China is playing the international game to become the most prominent economy in this decade, by @swardley.
@swardley Some key points about #China's long-run #strategy:

- For the #CPC (Communist Party of China) the #market is only a tool to leverage the power of the Chinese people, culture, and state, and not the holy sacred truth, as most western liberals believe. See @swardley's explanation.
@swardley - #China, through its CPC, acts as the #world's #biggest #buyer of goods & services, and hence, is able to impose its conditions (read law, prices, access to intellectual property, etc) to all multinationals that want to access the Chinese market, no matter how big they are.

A frightening dilemma looms for India's minorities, especially her Muslims. It is the upcoming @Census2021India. @PrakashJavdekar has stated that it will be a chance both the enumerate the population AND to populate/update the National Population Register - #NPR. So? you may ask.
Well, here's the rub. The #NPR will be a register of #residents. The National Citizens register will draw on it to establish #Citizenship status on criteria yet to be announced, confirmed and clarified. The #Census and #NPR will be based at least on the foll. data set.
That was the data set used for @censusIndia2011. In the first instance the expectation is that the data will be honestly filled in and submitted via an app. (I heard @PrakashJavdekar say that in a #PresConference on @NDTV.) Here's the dilemma
