Let's discuss yesterday's polls and begin our discussion on youth entrepreneurship with #GEMChats

This is a thread.
In a summary report of an OECD and the European
Commission seminar in 2014 , two things were key points:

1. #unemployment was at 10.9% in 2013 and double for #youth : 23.4%

2. 45% of youth prefer self-employment to
#employment, whereas 37% of adults prefer self-employment.
In Malaysia, MIDF reports find youth unemployment to be high - hitting a record 10.8% last year, attributed to a skills mismatch.

This is a significant 40.5% of total unemployment in #Malaysia.

So what can be done?
Entrepreneurship can be the answer to help alleviate #youthunemployment!

Some of Malaysia's biggest names in the start-up and rising businesses are founded and run by youths!
One of the bigger disruptors of the logistics is @NadhirAshafiq , who was voted as part of @Forbes Asia 30 under 30 in 2017! Nadhir runs TheLorry @thelorrydotcom, a platform to hire lorries in a transparent and streamlined manner.

In the local cosmetic scene, Velvet Vanity has been bringing in lipsticks that are inclusive in nature to all skin tones. Adlina Nadhirah, the founder, is a #youth #entrepreneur and aspires to see Velvet Vanity on Sephora shelves in 5 years time!

#Youths also breathe in a fresh breath of air into how #entrepreneurship impacts society. @Skolafund by @tahmadsyamil is a social #enterprise platform changing the lives of thousands of students seeking crowdfunded educational support.

Helping #refugees find financial means to ease their lives in #Malaysia, The Picha Project is a local social enterprise by three young female entrepreneurs who provide a unique catering service cooked by refugees from various countries!

Most youths experience trepidation over such a risky move by jumping into entrepreneurship. While it is normal, they should consider #entrepreneurship as a means of changing their lives should youth unemployment persist to be an issue.

If these founders can do it, so can you!
