Canadian government says it doesn't expect widespread border hassling of legal marijuana users/employees/investors after legalization: "Despite one-in-eight Canadians using cannabis today, 400,000 people move between our two countries every day almost entirely without incident.”
I called 15 Canadian marijuana companies. Only one person would speak on the record about this, an indication of industry unease about this. But that person, former B.C. health minister Terry Lake, said the issue is "overblown," and that he crosses the border without incident.
Others connected to the industry are more worried. One lawyer wouldn't speak on the record because the lawyer didn't want to produce more Google results about their ties to the industry. Lawyer said they scrubbed their phone and iPad before a recent U.S. family vacation.
I asked Minister Bill Blair's office what advice he'd give Canadians who legally smoke marijuana, or work or invest in the legal industry, and want to cross the border. Here's the answer: 
The U.S. federal government doesn't care about state laws. At the border, they see marijuana as illegal, period. Doesn't matter where you're crossing into.
