1) Why I can't get behind Common Market 2.0 - too much spin
There's several reasons why I'm against CM 2.0, it's not actually on the table, few people voted for it, it's a pointless #Brexit.

But I have to say a big part of it is @NickBoles & his spin

2) @IanDunt captures the latest here but really spin has been an issue all along. Firstly it was "Norway for now" and when that was torpedoed by the EU it morphed into "Norway+" and now "Common Market 2.0"

But it's just hype, changing & tweaking to make it acceptable
3) The latest is @NickBoles pretending that abstaining on #PeoplesVote is somehow "supporting" it, calling for 2nd ref supporters to support his proposal but refusing to support theirs. Now he's claiming it's a "get out" for FoM when it is nothing of the sort
4) Yes, if we get Norway+ it will be the least worst option but it would still be pointless. There's no passion behind Norway+ and no purpose - it carries zero benefits and is only a damage limitation exercise, a technical #Brexit
5) There was real momentum behind a #PeoplesVote and even #RevokeArticle50

Now Norway+ is emerging as a "safe harbour" for MPs who don't want to commit to either of the above but know that all other Brexits are more damaging.

We deserve better than this snake-oil, I'm sorry

It was never about northern seats, there was never a Labour "Jobs first #Brexit plan" and there was never any intention to be led by the members.

May has her personal Brexit she's tried to push through & ironically it's pretty much identical to Corbyn's Brexit

1) #Brexit - a summary
A simplification but pretty robust
The only benefit of any Brexit deal is they are less bad than no deal.

If you make no deal a none option you get the following:
SM+CU is pointless
SM without CU doesn't solve Irish Border & we lose existing trade deals
2) CU without SM doesn't solve Irish Border and is doubly pointless
May's deal is not a deal, but is also a bad deal we could be locked into
No SM and no CU creates damage the country would not support
There is no other deal beyond the above because...
3) we have the Irish border, and you cannot have different rules either side of a border and not have a border

And

All other deals rely on 27 sovereign countries publicly capitulating to the UK

There is literally no #brexit that makes sense or would be acceptable

1) Norway+ - where does it get us?
Lot of attacks tonight on #PeoplesVote supporters for not getting behind Norway+ (or Common Market 2.0 as it's been rebranded)
But really, that rebrand tells you everything that is wrong with Norway+

2) The very name of Common Market 2.0, like "Norway for Now", is an intention to pull the wool over the eyes of Leavers (and occasionally Remainers)

It's an attempt to treat Brexit as a tickbox exercise - the most technical of technical #Brexits. But lets fast forward 1 year
3) It's March 2020, the drama of the last few weeks is long behind us, and we're finalising the details on Norway+
But Leavers hate it, and will despise it as soon as the first ruling on new regulations comes through from the EU (via the EFTA court)

No 10 source: Timetable to elect new leader in hand of others - PM will stay during process.

This is about new leadership for phase 2.
Seems to me that PM is making it conditional on having to get through phase 1 that her general message it is
price she is prepared to pay and that the message of her team is that “this is national interest above personal interest”

#Brexit supporters like me hold @realDonaldTrump in profound contempt. We know he’s a liar. He’s offered the U.K. *zero* special trade deals. He’s done nothing but insult the Queen.

If ever there was an argument for pressing pause and taking Tusk’s long extension, ERG, its this.
With a year, we can negotiate a better version of EFTA. Freedom of movement *without a job* can be eliminated. Common Market 2 solves many problems. #DelayBrexit
By the way, @realDonaldTrump, threatening our EU friends and allies like @campaignforleo and Ireland is totally unacceptable. It’s not what #Brexit supporters want or stand for. The ERG will find it as ugly as Remain do. Nobody believes you will do anything for the U.K.

As a remainer I scratch my head as to why #Brexit continues to enjoy significant support despite overwhelming evidence its a really bad idea so thought I'd offer a psychological explanation for its appeal to some of its supporters which simply cannot lie in objective reality
I have no knowledge experience or professional qualifications in psychology whatsoever but as this is #brexit Britain this means I know more than professionals like @RichardBentall so offer my brexpertise on the psychological appeal of Brexit confident in my total ignorance
Being a Brexiter means being part of a huge crowd where not only are you all cheering for the same thing but this crowd permits and even encourages behaviour and attitudes which are normally forbidden and some brexiters at least feel liberated from decency and reason

Despite her #BREXIT deal being defeated by biggest margin a government has lost a vote ever maybot seeks concessions on backstop despite being told to bog off by the EU with no realistic hope of a different answer
Corbyn meanwhile refuses to talk #BREXIT without no deal being ruled out despite knowing she can't do this whilst maybot makes no concessions either.

I talked to business lobby groups, Stephen Kelly from @ManufacturingNI fresh back from talks with Barnier. And bosses of big companies.

- all-UK in a temporary customs Union
- Northern Ireland only in Single Market for goods, via devolution
