Joe Biden and Pete Buttigieg are the only two top-tier Democratic presidential candidates who haven't yet tweeted about Alabama's repugnant new abortion law.
Bernie calls the law "unconstitutional" and "cruel," calls on the governor to veto:
Warren: "I've lived in that America and let me tell you: We are not going back—not now, not ever. We will fight this. And we will win."
Warren also retweeted this, from the president of Planned Parenthood:
Harris calls the law "outrageous," says it "criminalize[s] ... health care."
Beto calls the law a "a radical attack on women."
Beto also tweets a Planned Parenthood fundraising link:
Nothing from Buttigieg, though he did tweet about the Georgia law a week ago.
Nothing from Biden on the Alabama abortion law, or the Georgia law. In fact, Joe Biden has—alone among the top-tier Dems running for president—never tweeted the word "abortion."
Update: Still no tweet from Buttigieg, but here are some comments on the Alabama bill in an interview. They're ... not emphatic. wndu.com/content/news/M…
Here's Buttigieg, with a stronger statement than the one in the interview.
It’s not just the absence/timing of the tweets that are interesting to me here, but the contents.
Warren, Beto, Booker all pledge to “fight” for abortion fights, framing the issue as one of mobilizing for struggle.
The same three RT Planned Parenthood figures, shouting them out as Pete did in an email to supporters.
Bernie’s initial tweet was (weirdly) a plea to the state’s GOP governor to veto the bill, but he’s tweeted a bunch more today.
A big question for the 2020 candidates is what kind of a crisis we’re in and what we’ll need to do to get out of it. Their tweets on a day like today provide insight into how they’ll be answering that question.
