1) Democracy depends on an informed electorate, on a basic assumption that what we are hearing has some truthful basis

The norm, the unwritten convention is that senior politicians are honourable & honest. Its why no MP can accuse another of lying in the HoC

We've lost that
2) the guardrails are being torn down by politicians who have realised that bare faced lying is more productive & effective that honest debate, and that lying on an industrial scale carries little or no consequence

It's indefensible

3) you can argue on the courts being involved in politics, however its a simple, inescapable fact.

Democracy cannot function, cannot operate in any meaningful way if MPs feel they can say literally anything, make up any statistic, just to win the argument
