Zzzt. That's the sound of our democracy being shredded by - and for - one Boris Johnson. The latest outrage: a plan by the 1922 committee to change internal party rules so that the Tory leader is automatically safe from a (Tory party) VONC during their first year in office. 😬
But of course if that happens, it shuts down another avenue of escape from no deal, as the Tory party won't be able to use its own processes to bring Boris Johnson down from within, no matter how dire the situation.
Effect of this, if it passes, will be to ratchet the stakes still higher. If Tories can no longer have any confidence (pardon the pun) of bringing down their leader, no matter the circumstances, then what's left?

Well, there's the parliamentary VONC... or surrendering the whip.

The EU's biggest trick is that it has made something astonishingly sophisticated (EU membership) seem simple. The Single Market & Customs Union "just work". But under the bonnet are thousands of legal agreements, shared standards, communal databases, etc. etc.
But because it looks superficially simple, the Brexiters think "give me a napkin & half an hour, and I can whip up an alternative that does the job."

They see an abacus when in fact it's a supercomputer.

That's why they have consistently underestimated the difficulty of Brexit.

BXP has no manifesto, no detailed policies & no plan for #Brexit (no, "just walk away" isn't a serious plan outside of a pub!)

Why are people willing to vote for a shady outfit that isn't a party, has dodgy finances & will likely adopt #UKIP's *no work* habit?

What's more, BXP now say they want to run in the next GE, even though the leader admits #Brexit isn't the answer to any of our domestic problems — you know, all those problems Leave voters thought Brexit was going to fix.

Somehow it feels like this is all about the salary and perks for some of the BXP's candidates, and that they're not taking the business of representing our country in an international forum seriously - as indeed those who were previously part of UKIP never have.

In UK politics an epidemic of accusations of antisemitism against @jeremycorbyn & the #LabourParty seems to be a proxy indicator of awareness & fear in some parts of our political world that #JeremyCorbyn's fairly relentless focus on #Austerity & Tory misdeeds does get results.

#ABTVtoStopBrexit isn't about affecting the balance of power or forcing a General Election. #ABTV is about sending a message to the Tories, and *especially* to Labour that people don't support *any* #Brexit. Not a #HardBrexit, #SoftBrexit, #NoDealBrexit, #Lexit, or *any* Brexit.
The Tory's control more than half of councils, nearly double Labour. Losing control of even half of them is unrealistic, and even if it happened under fixed term government I can all but guarantee it won't result in a General Election.
A Prime Minister calls a GE under two circumstances:
1) They are miles ahead in the polls and think they can increase their majority (as in 2017)
2) They have suffered a humiliating defeat or scandal.
