In June, I flagged several ads for a massive scam investment scheme to Facebook's trust/integrity lead. He promised to take a look. The scheme is still in operation.

FB benefits from it. Either they don't allocate the resources needed to fix this or they deliberately don't care.
The scam scheme uses 'dark ads' served via different FB pages that take users to different websites/domains that show fake endorsements by well-known persons.

It has been discussed in Austria in recent days, Martin @haunschmidtech did an investigation:

I guess, this is only the tip of the iceberg. Add commercial misinformation, ad arbitrage, plain fraud etc, and it should be much more.

It's the (click-based web) economy, stupid.
Asking Google and other adtech/data companies for better vetting won't fix this, but will only ever lead to unaccountable platforms making arbitrary decisions.

Companies who (high-freq) trade in behavioral data, clicks, and attention have a fundamental conflict of interest here.
Btw. Without shady tracking companies such as Comscore, who claim to 'measure' everything, this toxic pipe dream of a surveillance web economy wouldn't exist at all.

NationBuilder, a platform used by thousands of political campaigns across the world, provides a feature to find FB accounts for email addresses. FullContact, a company who has data on 1bn people, sold data to them.

A few months ago, I was wondering how NationBuilder is able to do this. Now we know.
Btw. data brokers such as FullContact shouldn't exist:

"FullContact turns any combination of email addresses, social handles, phone numbers, postal addresses or limited demographic data …into complete, accurate customer profiles"

Facebook's new 'Board for Content Decisions' may help people affected at a practical level in some way, but:

1) This is not democracy.

2) FB can continue to mess with social+info intermediation for growth and profit while getting rid of the blame for nasty moderation stuff.
Perhaps it also makes some sense on a (geo)political level (short-term) and some board members may even demand some changes in Facebook's business practices some day.

Anyway, FB as a utility-scale platform will remain a toxic and unaccountable entity that has far too much power.
I'd be especially interested how much has FB invested in setting up this seemingly impressive 'global input process' for the global 'oversight board'?

After 70 years of imperial/neoliberal indoctrination the web of lies is so obviously absurde (9/11, Skripal, WH = ISIS, etc.), that it is dissoluting. The empathetic humanity connects, closes ranks and sends their eternal psychopathic rulers and their lackeys into nowhere land.
The "evil empire" is a lifelong three year old child. I certainly loved my children at that age too, however only because they created not only a surreal mess, but also made steady progress.

A great documentary about psychopathy and society:
The elite invented "democracy" to protect them from the empathetic people. The media are their means for misleading the people sedated by "democracy". This is definitely a bad thing since the people have become educated and the elite almost totally insane.
