Across the nation, organizations of all sizes are taking steps to prepare for an influx of Coronavirus cases. Here in San Diego, we are doing the same. We must be vigilant to protect against further spread of #COVID19. 1/ 
In an abundance of caution, I’m issuing a State of Emergency for the @CityofSanDiego . This follows the state of emergency issued by @SanDiegoCounty and @WHO declaring a global pandemic. 2/
The City’s State of Emergency is a procedural action to ensure the City can act swiftly without unnecessary restriction and authorizes us to issue emergency contracts if necessary to carry out City business and help combat the spread of the virus. 3/
Additionally, the City is making preparations for City employees and internal operations, with a focus on ensuring that core city services continue as usual. And we are making every effort possible to ensure this virus does not take hold among our homeless population. 4/
County health officials have made clear this virus poses a very low risk to healthy persons. San Diegans should remain calm, practice proper hygiene and handwashing, stay home if you feel ill and monitor the County’s website for updates. qoo.ly/34spgc 5/
The State and now the County have issued direction to restrict large, non-essential gatherings of 250 people at least through the end of March. City staff have begun reaching out to permittees of large events that are taking place this month. 6/
We know these changes will have a real impact on all San Diegans. This is affecting our economy, our jobs, and our loved ones. It is neither convenient nor easy to operate in a time of uncertainty. But what we can control is how we respond to this crisis. 7/
