Many of the most important projects @NigeriaGov under President Buhari is doing in the SE relate to transportation - enhancing connectivity of the region (a trading and industrial hub) by air, rail, road and sea.

#Thread
Let me start with Air. Enugu Airport - the region’s International Airport - is undergoing an upgrade (new Runway etc) for which the President approved 10 billion Naira last year, and which Aviation Minister @hadisirika assures will be completed before Easter.
The Enugu Airport also has a new Terminal building that is under construction (a project inherited at about 20% completion, according to @fmaviationng, and now at about 60%). Minister Sirika assures that the project will not be abandoned.
Let’s talk about Rail. One of the Top 5 projects on the list of loan projects for which @NigeriaGov recently got Senate approval is a NEW standard gauge rail line from Onne Port in Rivers to Calabar in Cross River. It will pass through Aba - the manufacturing heartland of Nigeria
Roads and Bridges:

The flagship @NigeriaGov road project in/for the SE is the Second Niger Bridge, coming more than 50 years after the 1st Bridge opened. The Bridge project consists of 10km of 6-lane Highway on either side (Asaba and Onitsha), and will have a navigation channel
Roads:

Reconstruction of Enugu—Port Harcourt Expressway is ongoing.
A number of sections have been completed. Being funded by @NigeriaGov’s #SukukBond-s. Very important road project, linking important SE cities to a Port town.
Roads:

Rehabilitation of Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. Ongoing. Just last week the FEC approved the revocation by @FMWHNIG of the 9th Mile section (a 15km stretch) from a non-performing contractor and subsequent re-award to RCC, which is already handling the remaining sections.
Roads:

The roads connecting the SE to the Northern part of Nigeria (Benue, Abuja) are being rehabilitated/ expanded/rebuilt:

1. Enugu-Makurdi Road (some important sections completed - screenshot from Dec 2018). Need to get updates on how much more work done since then.
The Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi road is another part of the road links between the SE and the North. Work also ongoing here: When this and the Makurdi-Enugu Road are completed, much faster travel times and smoother journeys:
Earlier I talked about the Second Niger Bridge, across Nigeria’s most important River. Nigeria’s 2nd most important River, the Benue, is also getting a brand new Bridge. This Bridge will shorten travel time between the SE and the Northern part of Nigeria by hours, acc to @FMWHNIG
Minister of @FMWHNIG @tundefashola visited the Loko-Oweto Bridge Project — over River Benue, linking Loko and Oweto in Nasarawa and Benue States respectively) on Friday. Bridge has now been completed; what’s outstanding is link roads to neighboring towns.
“When I came here in 2016, only one side of the Bridge was completed; now, the entire bridge is completed. The only work that remains now is the connecting roads to link the Bridge to the towns,” — @tundefashola, March 13, 2020
“This is the Bridge that crosses River Benue while the 2nd Niger Bridge is also going on. They are the two major Bridge interventions across the two largest rivers in Nigeria to improve national integration and further improve national coexistence in the country”.—@tundefashola
We’ll take a commercial break here and continue tomorrow.

This break focuses on something SYMBOLIC, the Zik Mausoleum, started in 1996 when Zik died, and abandoned by successive govts until 2016 when the Buhari admin restarted work; it was COMPLETED 2018
Will pick this #Thread up later today, as promised
