German Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine reports:

In most German hospitals, Covid 19 patients now have to be cared for in the intensive care units and, in many cases, ventilation is also required.
According to the Intensive Care Medicine Association DGAI, around 100 patients are being admitted to the wards every day. If this trend continues, the reserves created could be used up in three to four weeks, according to the forecasts of the intensive care physicians.
While there are individual ventilated intensive care patients in smaller hospitals, there are often more than 20 in larger clinics and universities. Individual patients have also been cured. They often suffer from acute lung failure that is caused by the corona virus.
"We are currently well positioned," says Professor Dr. Gernot Marx, spokesman for the intensive medicine working group of the "German Society for Anaesthesiology and Intensive Medicine" (DGAI). However, the situation could worsen within days.
And then resources could quickly become scarce. Complete additional intensive care units were set up in places. Around 28,000 of the approximately 28,000 regular intensive care beds in Germany were occupied before the pandemic.
Intensive care physicians from many regions continue to complain that the material is scarce. With a consumption of 30 liters of disinfectant per day, the stock lasts for a week at most, reports a hospital doctor from the Lower Rhine, for example.
Several other clinics nationwide report that they will soon run out of supplies for the ventilators. A clinic from southern Germany has short-circuited with industrial companies in the area, who now want to manufacture parts for breathing tubes and respirators.
"If there are decisive bottlenecks in intensive care medicine in the next few weeks, it will not be in the premises and equipment, but in the materials and personnel," says a chief physician of the situation.
It is not out of the question that more nurses and doctors will soon drop out because of an infection with the Corona virus or because of exhaustion.
