🚦review imminent, I'm getting a lot of questions.
I reply to everyone but it's so time consuming
I'm now working on 7-day rates for EVERY Greek island.
I'll continue to post free advice and data, so nothing will be hidden from anyone, so please don't be angry or upset! And yes you can still ask questions!
So the big news in UK today is that the single shot Jansen (J&J) #Covid19 vaccine has been approved
The big #Covid19 data news overnight is that #Argentina smashed its own record again, topping 40,000 cases in a day for the first time.
41,080 new cases to be precise, up around 15% on last week's total.
Another 547 new deaths
Also a huge climb in infections in #Colombia
25,092 new cases of #Covid19 diagnosed along with 513 more victims of the pandemic.
Colombia remember also seemed to be heading down, but this is a second successive daily record and 50% higher than the week before.
Better news in South America comes from the biggest nation - #Brazil
#Covid19 cases had gone back up, but now coming down rapidly, with a 20%+ fall to under 67,000 overnight. But the important thing is as vaccination rates increased, the death rate CONTINUED falling
In #Bolivia, 3,018 new #Covid19 infections today. Up a little on a week ago, but down on the last 2 record breaking days.
That's some good news, and hopefully the peak will be reached soon. The interesting thing then will be to see if we get the strange double-peak as elsewhere
#Paraguay reports 3,136 new #Covid19 cases, plus 99 deaths. That's a small increase on last week, but down from the recent record numbers, so hope here too.
In #Uruguay a fall in cases and deaths, but the trend is still up right now.
3,937 new infections and 44 more deaths
#Belgium's cases are down a little today, a more moderate drop to be expected after the huge fall yesterday.
2,891 #Covid19 positive tests in the last 24 hours, down 9%.
13 deaths.
There's no discernible trend for infections there, probably because the evidence points towards a growing problem and made up figures.
Again over 400 Covid deaths admitted to, increasing the 7-day death rate
A full update of ALL the Greek islands' #Covid19 infection rates will be coming in the next half hour.
Tell your friends! And thank you so so much to everyone who's donated to help my efforts.
Love you all!
Europe is looking pretty good so far today with no new areas of concern.
The swathe of central Euro countries all continuing downward trends: CZ, SK, HU, PL, AT plus the 3 Baltic States, EE, LV, LT and Ukraine, all with good falls in #Covid19 numbers again today.
Not so good in parts of Asia though.
#Malaysia has just broken its national record for daily new #Covid19 cases for the 5th time in 6 days.
8,290 infections today and 61 new deaths. It's turning into a bit of a crisis now.
#OlympicGames update
I've just realised the 1st events of #Tokyo2020 will be held on the day #UK is scheduled🤞to remove the final #Coronavirus restrictions, 21 June (in 54 days)
New #Covid19 cases down almost 30% in #Japan today. 4,141 infections.
113 deaths, highest for a week
I know a lot of people are interested in #Croatia and not spoken about there for a while.
#Covid19 cases continue to plummet.
Just 321 new cases today, down from 525 a week ago, but another 11 deaths.
The 7 day infection rate is now only 58.5/100k
The #UAE won't be coming off the red list any time soon.
There is a real explosion of cases there now, with a big wave potentially developing.
2,236 new #Covid19 infections today up 50% on last Friday. Infection rate back up to 126/100k or 180 AD/M
The recent small falls in #Denmark are continuing and indeed getting bigger.
997 new #Covid19 cases today, down over a quarter (-354). This recovery should, hopefully, last
So #GreekIslands
Here are up to date 7-day #Covid19 infection rates/100k for all islands using population data from Google & 2011 census, so as accurate as I can be
Obviously many islands so a few tweets needed!
*#Greece Govt doesn't give data for individual islands in Sporades
Any island not listed is either in a group or 0 cases
Important update from #Portugal
Only a 7% increase in new #Covid19 cases today which is much better news.
Portugal's not in danger of being removed from🟢list yet, but could go "flashing green" is the trend is not reversed.
598 positive tests today vs 559 last Friday...
Of the 598 new #covid19 cases in #Portugal, the Azores still seeing too many, but the capital remains the hotspot.
#Covid19 tests are so expensive for travelllers...
I have no links with any companies and take no cash, but this deal I found looks good. For a family of 4, "fit to fly" tests to leave the country would be under £200
There are so many complaints about testing companies. But I must give praise to @DnaWorkplace
They always answer queries quickly, and when I caught #Covid19 a couple of months ago and did not need the prepaid Day2/8 tests, they refunded the money
#Ireland achieves an 11% reduction in new #Covid19 cases again this evening.
467 new infections, and still just 99 patients in hospital.
Finally news that the Irish govt is to permit travel to UK and USA from July.
It's getting worse and worse for #Chile
The second highest ever daily number of new #Covid19 cases today with 8,658
That's more than 1,000 up on last Friday's figure.
New cases today in #Bolton are down again today, to the lowest number of new infections in the last 7 days.
It shows either surge testing/tracing is working, the strain peaks quickly, or more likely both
Make no mistake if all towns are hit as badly as #Bolton it could be catastrophic as cases went up 8 fold, hence the reason for the hospital admissions being well up.
But it does offer hope #UK can ride out the storm, hopefully without much loss of life.
#Albania deserves huge praise - whatever they've been doing has worked.
Just 21 cases of #Covid19 there today down from 35 last Friday.
The 7-day infection rate is now astonishingly under 5/100k
It should go🟢on UK🚦system soon.
While I still think #Italy has a slight chance of getting on🟢list, I think all hope for #Spain has evaporated for the next🚦review.
5,482 new #Covid19 cases in Spain today, that's UP 14%
Good rates/100k for the island groups (Y'day): #Balearics 17.4 (19.2) #Canaries 35.5 (37.5)
There are 11,258 new #Covid19 infections & 125 more deaths
The infection rate's falling much too slowly to even be considered🟢in this review. Currently 100/100k
However, maybe it will be ok in 4 weeks; hopefully by then France may let us in
#SriLanka, like India, is continuing the long road to recovery.
2,850 new cases of #Covid19 today, but that's 700 down on last week. The infection rate is 15% lower than at its peak.
The number of #Covid19 patients in hospital there is the lowest since February. New cases are down another 20% tonight to 287.
The infection rate is now under 25/100k but I expect it to fluctuate over the next few days.
It will be quite frightening for athletes and especially older officials to read & sign this.
But in reality the situation in #Japan is improving rapidly there and risk level is low.
53 days
Now more very concerning news from #Bahrain, one of the most vaccinated territories on the planet.
#Covid19 cases are still rising there - more worrying is the real increase in deaths too.
Second highest daily number of new cases & deaths in the latest update
graph @Worldometers
1/9 Which countries are the worst liars when it comes to #Covid19 deaths (and which are the most honest)?
There's no definitive way of stating, but analysis of excess deaths is a guide to the real extent of #Coronavirus
I've worked out official deaths as a % of excess deaths..
2/9 This is the best way to expose clear cheating.
But it's not perfect
Many nations suspected of underplaying #Covid19 deaths don't declare mortality data, notably India, Indonesia and Turkey, though for the latter two stats are available for the biggest cities Jakarta/Istanbul
3/9 Data are the latest available for each country but e.g. while Peru, Spain, UK are right up to date, others are >6 months old.
Some nations have negative excess deaths, e.g. Taiwan, New Zealand, Thailand, Australia, Japan, Iceland, Norway.
Having lockdowns, mask wearing etc
Sunday's #Coronavirus megathread will, as always, be updated throughout the day with news, data and analysis.
Few paid attention while we warned of rising #Covid19 cases in the Balkans then central Europe. Now everyone's concerned as big nations suffer.
Come inside folks!
And I'll start with Europe's biggest nation (in population), #Germany
A further 27% rise in #Covid19 cases confirmed overnight with 10,572 new infections for Saturday vs 8,311 the week before.
#Brazil's been the focus of much attention of late as deaths soar.
The number of people who were reported to have died of #Covid19 yesterday actually dipped, but only because it's the weekend. In fact 1,940 deaths is 30% higher than last Saturday's 1,498
If Friday turned out to be fearful, we can only hope it's not a shocking Saturday.
More and more countries and regions heading back into lockdown as #Covid19 spreads quicker then the vaccines.
And already today new record - read on..
The first record to report is from crisis-torn #Brazil
For the 3rd successive day over 2,000 deaths.
But it's new #Covid19 cases rewriting the record books today with 84,047 positive tests, that's 12% more than the week before
2,152 more deaths takes total fatalities over 275k
