BREAKING: Senator Burr Says GOP Platform Changes on Russia Were Based on "Guidance" (Evidence Suggests From Trump at March 31, 2016 Meeting)
/ Burr says they spoke to all involved in the change; the Trump aide responsible for it previously said guidance was from Trump on 3/31/16.
/ The 3/31/16 meeting at Trump's hotel also involved Sessions and George Papadopoulos, who was then trying to get Trump to meet with Putin.
/ The (deserved) attention previously paid to the Mayflower will now shift—it seems—to the March 31, 2016 meeting Trump held at the TIHDC.
/ Trump—per aides—set his Russia policy for his team at that meeting, during which Papadopoulos may have revealed Putin hoped to see Trump.
/ Page was mysteriously absent from the meeting despite it being his team—this was as the team discussed a private citizen going to Moscow.
/ As we now know, Page, a member of the team Trump met with on 3/31/16, *did* go to Moscow. U.S. intel says he met with Putin/FSB allies.
/ Note: March 31, 2016 was during the four-week run-up to a) Manafort taking over the campaign (4/16), and b) the Mayflower speech (4/27).
/ So it's not clear why Senators met with those who changed the platform but NOT all those who were at the meeting where that was decided.
/ Expect for that word—"guidance"—to be heavily scrutinized, and for questions to be asked about why Trump gave that guidance on March 31.
PS/ Open questions: What was Manafort's role in setting Trump's Russia policy on 3/31/16? Had Trump been told Putin wanted to meet with him?
