The Red Crowned Roofed #turtle is a #species of #freshwater turtle endemic to South #Asia.

Historically the species was widespread in the #Ganga River, both in #India and #Bangladesh. Extirpated from most of its former range but currently it has dwindled a last surviving population of less than 500 adult individuals in the #wild.

Their population reduced drastically due to depredation of eggs and hatchlings by Golden #jackals, #habitat degradation due to #pollution and illegal sand mining in the floodplains. They are also extensively #poached for their meat and shell.

It allowed me to point out some important work at policy level to mainstream #Gender issues, like #ccGap document by #IUCN Pakistan & @MoCC with @theGCF readiness support to work in tandem with National #ClimateChangePolicy by highlighting interventions in 6 priority sectors
Progress was narrated by #WDD rep. on #genderfriendly new laws, & amend. in existing laws is heartening. Look forward to their wide implementation. Also about measures about safety of women & safe houses like DarulAman @SyedaShehlaRaza @UNFPAPakistan @bayramgul_unfpa @SCSWPK

We found that the #GreenStatusOfSpecies method for assessing species' recovery status, and the impact conservation has had on recovery, is widely-applicable and ecologically-meaningful (2/)
We found that species' recovery status is linked to, but separate from @IUCNRedList extinction risk category, meaning that the #GreenStatusOfSpecies will provide new information that is conservation-relevant. This is captured in new #IUCN Species Recovery Categories (3/)

The financialization of #nature has been in the works for well over the last decade. This is a complete transformation of the global economic system. Some key players for now ramping up it's implementation are identified in the accounts tagged by the Natural Capital Coalition.

Huge flocks of sparrows, starlings and lapwing. So many flies and insects that we needed a fly screen on the back door. Thunderbugs and ladybird swarms. The car bonnet covered in insects after a short journey. The sound of cuckoo's every Spring. Dead hedgehogs on the roads!
