I think (and write) a lot about writing and how stories are constructed, the underlying narrative architecture which supports storytelling in general.

This is an interesting approach to laying out a dual-axis analysis.

It's worth talking about why some things are popular and some things aren't, however. Whether you're talking about a #TTRPG or the short story you're trying to get placed in a magazine.
Firstly, there's a reason that when you try to think of a "Bright" story you can't – it's because they're boring as crap. If you try to read one or try to write one, you'll discover very quickly the reason why.

Story is driven by conflict.

I just went through all the pictures on my iPad, sorting them and there are many pictures of #lab #equipment, that I have gathered over the decades. Most is useful, some is not. Maybe, I should tweet a bit about the good stuff. I am sure, I have mentioned some, already. Image
What I really like, are the DIY lab trolleys. The fact, that they are on wheels let me rearrange my lab easily. They all have electric outlets installed and an ESD table cover. All the same height, made from aluminum extrusion profiles. #labTrolley ImageImageImageImage
It is even easy to set up a macro photo tent on such a lab trolley. I take most pictures with the iPad, but sometimes, it is niche to have better quality pictures of projects and things. Image

My main comment about this paper is about publication strategy and not science: I probably should not have called it #opensource: "CAD file available upon request" - it should be easier than that! Don't make it so hard for biologists to copy your work!
If you want your technology adopted, make adoption really, really easy - find a vendor for parts kits, provide the complete parts list, provide software, provide documentation - don't let users do a lot of the legwork. Lowering the barrier to entry is key.

My favorite way to learn a new group of inverts is to describe & draw a new species. You have to do all this research on known species so you learn a lot. Then you do detailed drawings that ensure you learn each structure. Hard to forget something you spent hours drawing

On our hunt for past malaria we were fortunate to obtain a collection of blood-stained medical #microscope #slides prepared for diagnostics purposes in 1944 in Spain, one of the last footholds of #malaria in Europe. (2/7)
