in #Iraq, for the first time since 2003, the #Shia #Sunni #Kurds and #Turkmen were all divided this time prior to the selection of the Speaker, the President and the Prime Minister.
#USA pushed for its own candidate/coalition (Moqtada-Abadi).

#Iran pushed for the unity of all coalitions, Shia, Sunni and Kurds, in an attempted to unite all & produce leaders accepted by all. Iran also worked to bring down the US candidate/coalition.

The world (including Iraq) didn't realise that "no larger coalition has been nominated".

The reason is simple: Iran wanted to save the face and honor of Moqtada, he who joined a lost coalition, so #Iran Soleimani cam "bring him back" to where he belongs

The #USA promoted Moqtada-Abadi and failed. Its only option was to "walk along" with what was happening and support acceptable candidates already prepared long before the election. #US endorsed the victory of Adel Abdel Mahdi: Victory has many fathers.

Masoud Barzani came out a loser, again due to the Shia unification around Adel Abdel Mahdi. Masoud's stubborn attitude to promote Fouad Hussein, a kind of "office boy" of Barzani in Kurdistan, was counterproductive to his position.

Nevertheless, Barzani is not over: he will have a strong ministry and the leadership of Kurdistan.

Soleimani tried - but failed - to convince Barzani to select Barham Saleh and drop Fuad Husein so the #Kurds are united over one candidate.

#Iran aimed to see to political leadership in #Iraq united because Tehran is tranquil about Iraq: #ISIS has left behind a strong ideologue group, very well trained and established, a friend of Iran and against the US. It is over. Nothing can be done.

Saudi Arabia tried to "ride the US horse" in Iraq, promoting Moqtada, but unaware that Moqtada is a wild horse and can bite.

Moqtada turned against Abadi, the US and Saudi Arabia. he is on the other camp now.
