Every major report from the IPCC to the International Energy Association shows that in order to avert catastrophic warming of the climate we need to rapidly phase out fossil fuels
CCUS gives fossil fuel industry a claim (a far off promise based on unproven technology) that it can continue to operate in a world that is working towards net zero. Without CCUS, the fossil fuel industry has no social license, no way to continue profiting off of extraction.

Overall, Canada's electricity capacity grows by 2.8x by 2050, and the amount of electrical energy we use grows by 1.8x

In the 386 report on the metal road to the full #digitalization of the global economy & societies, not a single word about data centers. #Electricity for data centers is to increase 15-fold by 2030 representing 8-11% global demand. In one scenario, global demand could reach 20%.

(2/9) Scenarios achieving 50-56% CO2 reduction by 2030 see total #coal use reduce by 70%, #oil by 25-50% and #naturalgas by up to 25%. The use of total #biomass ranges from limited growth to an increase of up to 60%. All compared to 2017.

On #Transport: The target for phasing our conventionally fuelled vehicles is inadequate. The @transportgovuk ‘Road to Zero’ (‘ICE ban 2040’) may neither hit the target nor make the early gains needed for a 1.5°C trajectory. @_chris_brand_ @jillian_anable
On #electricity: policy should build on Electricity Market Reform that has worked well & adapt in the light of technology/cost changes. Change in ‘black start’ incentives & other ancillary services are needed to ensure the system remains resilient @energyukcomms @ngcontrolroom
