Annoyed thread: A person named Kris Lint, who has left a whopping 327 comments on the SyFy channel’s website, decided to write an extended comment on my interview on #disability & scifi about how he can’t think of one #disabled person who knows who wouldn’t “jump for a cure.”
Kris says disabilities aren’t things people want, just things people are forced to overcome. Kris says no parent wants a disabled child.
Kris then proceeded to say I’m ignorant for thinking tech should aim to create a more #accessible world rather than focus exclusively on cure. If anyone out there knows Kris Lint, leading commenter on the SyFy channel website, please tell them to kindly fuck all of the way off.

Morning thoughts: Sometimes white FB friends post photos from an evening out & everyone w/ them appears white. Then I look thru their other pics & same deal. I wonder: Am I their 1 black friend? How many white folks claim proximity to me as a shield against accusations of racism?
And if I *am* the only black friend of many white folks I know, what’s my responsibility for or complicity in their white liberalism? Been thinking about this after I heard someone I sort of know claiming to be friends with me in a discussion about race & I was like who? what? 🤔
FYI if you’re Facebook friends with me we aren’t necessarily friends. If you follow me we aren’t necessarily friends. You can’t claim me as friend if we’ve never had a one on one convo or you can’t name basic shit about me like where I’m from, my partners’ names, etc.

Ok #AcademicTwitter: Madison is looking at another 8 in of snow Sun into Mon then dangerous wind chills Wed as low as -55. It seems likely @UWMadison will have to cancel since one can get frost bite within 5 min at that temp & the majority of our students walk/bike/bus to campus.
Normally cancelled classes don’t faze me but I’m teaching this giant lecture this semester. Anyone have suggestions on ways (software) for me to record my lecture at home (that is, a video of my slides & my voice) to upload so we aren’t too far behind? Even fancier: live stream?

Can I instead write an article about how the concept of guilty pleasures in based in classism, racism, & sexism instead? Because “low brow” often means poor/working class, racialized or feminized things? How bout that article?

Further, half the things people are replying about—sci-fi (my own research), reality TV & gaming—are things people do actual real research on already.
I also feel like this article concept is another way of performing that academics can’t embrace pleasure, that work can not be pleasurable. I say fuck that and read @adriennemaree’s new book Pleasure Activism next month when it drops.

In an age of disinformation, 'fake news' propaganda fed by anonymous bots, it's tiring to respond to erroneous accusations. But it's precisely because of the age in which we live that it is important to do so when one can: especially when you're not an Anglo-Saxon male. #Thread
I have to say, I came to this realisation late. For years, I ignored scurrilous attacks on my own work, because ignorance doesn't deal well with knowledge. It's all too often a ploy to just whip up anger and hate, instrumentalising a writer or author in order to do so.
But, I've changed my policy in that regard. Because the reality is, this is not merely about one's own reputation: it's about the state of knowledge production at work. If ignorant attacks are left unchallenged too often, ignorance becomes the basis of public narrative.

Tonight #myspoins are educational. I used to think in terms of how #disability affects my access. Now it's a trait to me like brown eyes.
I used to thinking embracing being a #spoonie meant accepting that I could never be my best self. Now I know it just means changing paths.
#MySpoons will mean only a limit to the amount of BS to be allowed in my life, not a limit to what life can be.
