@JunckerEU told German radio this morning a conclusion may not be reached by the EU (all 27 leaders must reach unanimous decision) this week. More talk of extra summit in Brussels next week possibly 28 March ... 2
Short ext makes sense to EU if PM can ram #Brexit deal through Parliament and ext is used to ratify the deal BUT EU leaders are doubtful . See parliament still v divided and Brussels won’t reopen backstop text/withdrawal agreement so.. 3
Thinking amongst many in EU this morning is that PM asking for short ext for domestic political reasons but that she could well be back asking for a longer one otherwise EU thinks she’s simply delaying no deal #Brexit by a few weeks 4
Huge frustration in EU as we know but leaders still guided by wanting to avoid a no deal #Brexit if they can and the inevitable blame game that would follow BUT getting an extension isn’t a done deal. Won’t be straightforward for PM when sees leaders at EU summit tomorrow 5
