TEN CHARITIES TO HELP SAVE ANIMALS AT RISK DURING AUSTRALIA’S RAGING FIRES

The devastation of the bushfires in Australia cannot be overestimated.

The impact on animals is especially alarming as many are already reaching endangered status.
Amidst the increasingly sad news, there are some amazing stories of rescue and compassion.

I have interspersed Facts, Stories of Hope, and How to Help throughout.

Please let these heartwarming rescues inspire you* to help save someone during this tragic time.

Watch as These Brave Volunteers Work to Save Wild Animals as Australian Wildfires Rage.

Their compassion brings tears to my eyes.

Facts:
An estimated 8,000 koalas have perished so far.

“Koalas are typically slow-moving and their normal danger-avoidance strategy - currling into a ball atop a tree - has left them trapped in extreme fires.” There’s no clear indicator that an animal is in trouble.

Many animals were already struggling with a lack of water and food.

“With the fires destroying unprecedented amounts of habitat, food shortages have increased and lack of suitable habitat will be a significant...challenge.”
Stories of Hope

“Thousands of hectares of koala habitat across northern NSW and southeast Queensland have been destroyed in the recent bushfires.”

This koala, Kenny, was rescued from the Bilpin fireground and is now in care with WIRES.

Stories of Hope

“WIRES and other exerts tend to discourage people from feeding wild animals, but wildfires have prompted them to encourage people to provide much needed food and water.”

This a free and easy way everyone in the area can help.

Stories of Hope🦘

A family raised a kangaroo since she was young, feeding her by hand. “They released her, and had let her roam wild for years.

Now, as the fires burned, she turned up at their door seeking shelter.”

Now she’s wild but she comes in because of the fires.
Stories of Hope

A firefighter called Adam has become famous for saving at least six koalas from one of the most intense blazes to hit the state.

“The devastating fire, which reached emergency level on Friday, killed one person and destroyed 72 homes and 227 vehicles.”

Stories of Hope

People who help animals tend to be compassionate and inspire action.

But when we see animals helping animals it is proof that they are just as sentient and compassionate as humans.
