Happening Now: President Mahmoud Abbas delivers Palestine's response to Trump's plan at the UN Security Council: webtv.un.org/live-now/watch…
I came today backed by the positions of the Arab League, African Union and Organisation of Islamic Corporation, in addition to statements by the EU, Russia and China as well as the UN
The US plan deligitimised the rightful Palestinian demands for having a state and legitimised the settlements and the annexation of Palestinian land, President Abbas adds
The deal takes out Jerusalem and turns our homeland into disjointed pieces of land and will lead to the destruction of the foundations of the peace process, President Abbas goes on to say
"Who from you accept to have a state like this? A Swiss cheese state?" President Abbas asks
This deal will reward the Israeli occupation instead of bringing it to accountability for the decades of crimes against our people, says President Abbas
We thank everyone for their positions and also we thank the *Israelis* who expressed their rejection to this deal "in different ways"
President Abbas shows a document saying "This is a document by 300 Israeli officers who fought for their country and now they say we are fighting for what is right"
We salute the Israeli protesters in Tel Aviv who said no to this deal, President Abbas goes on to say.
We salute our Palestinian people, Arab and Islamic nations, and the supporters of peace who went out in their 100,000s to say no to this deal
In Gaza now it is 0 degrees, yet 100,000s went out to say no to this deal in spite of those who say that this deal represents justice.
President Abbas says in spite of every thing, peace between Israel and Palestine is still possible. Peace is a strategic choice, President Abbas declares.
Why is this insistence on unilaterally drafting this Israeli-American deal in spite of the previous talks between the Palestinians and the Americans?
We spoke with President Trump in 2017 on all issues. "I was happy with my dialogue but I was surprised that he suddenly closed the PLO office in DC, then declare Jerusalem as a united capital of Israel. How did this happen?"
"President Trump isn't like this. This is not the Trump I know. I don't know where these actions came from," President Abbas notes. "I don't know who gave him this advice."
We have 140 state recognising us in response to our commitment to international resolutions and the peace agreements signed with Israel.
"We continue to build our state institutions based on rule of law and the international standards of a modern state."
President Abbas says "we are not terrorists. No matter what happens to us we will continue to combat terrorism".
We want to hold elections but the Israelis said that elections can't happen in East Jerusalem.
"To those who say we waste opportunities to make peace, this is incorrect," President Abbas says.
Israel's current leadership is what ruined all international efforts to mediate a resolution to the conflict.
Russia, Japan, Belgium and France, all of them invited us to meet Mr Netanyahu, and he never came. "I went three times to Moscow to meet him and he never showed up."
Who is blowing the opportunities then? [Former Israeli FM] Abba Eban said it once, and [Trump's] son-in-law latched on to it.
In these difficult moments, I say this to President Donald Trump: The current deal doesn't achieve peace and security because it annuls the international resolutions and denied all the internationally-recognised rights of the Palestinian people.
I tell the Israeli, if we achieve peace, it will be the most beautiful relationship between Israel and Palestine. But give us a chance to make peace!
I wish that President Donald Trump will show fairness and support the international resolutions to build real peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians.
I call on the International Quartet to hold an international peace conference to implement the international resolutions.
We will not accept the USA as a sole mediator. We tried them and can't afford to do that again.
In this historic moment, I stretch my hand for peace before it is wasted. I wish I could meet an Israeli leader - similar to Rabin - to make real peace that future generations will enjoy.
The whole situation is becoming very volatile. It is a must that hope is renewed. Don't waste hope for our people and all the region in freedom and independence. Don't kill our people's hope.
I wanna show you this map, which wrenches my heart in pain: Does the Palestinian people deserve this?
I say to the Israeli people: We have only choice. Let's be partners and neighbours each in their own independent and sovereign state.
We will continue our quest for ending the occupation. Our people will knot kneel. You tried us. We want our rights.
I'm ready to begin negotiations if Israel has a partner who is ready for negotiations on the basis of international resolutions
We believe in peace and will not resort to violence. We are against terrorism.
I came here for the sake of peace so please don't push it away from us, President Abbas concludes his statement.
