1️⃣ #Unit400 is the special forces unit of the #QudsForce, focused on planning and conducting attacks outside #Iran. Within this remit, it also takes responsibility for transferring #military aid to terror and #guerrilla organisations around the world...

2️⃣ and coordinating their activities in order to prepare them to carry out attacks that serve the interests of the Iranian regime...

The HQ of #QudsForce's #Unit400 is in southeast #Tehran (Iran) The office run by the unit commander, Hamed Abdallahi.

3️⃣ Both the #IRGC and #QudsForce have been secretive and #Iran keeps most, if not all, of their activities and resources well guarded. However, given the #military unit’s expansive operations, they developed another section within the organisation for more specialised operations.

4️⃣ This section is known as #Unit400, which is believed to be a clandestine unit of the #QudsForce under the direct command of the Supreme Leader of #Iran.  Specifically, this Unit is employed to seek out #Western targets across the world.

5️⃣ A 2012 report investigated the botched #Bangkok plot to assassinate #Israeli diplomats in #Thailand, revealing that Majid Alavi, a former deputy #Iranian intelligence minister, “shifted to the #QudsForce [2012] and along with [Hamed] Abdollahi,..

6️⃣ a commander accused in the Washington plot,” operates #Unit400, which is “known as the Special Operations Unit.” According to State Department cables, Alavi also spied on dissidents living in #London and #LosAngeles.

7️⃣ Additionally, the 2012 report obtained information from #US. officials that #Unit400 “conducts sensitive covert operations abroad [that] include #terroristattacks, #assassinations, #kidnappings and #sabotage.”

8️⃣ They have also supplied #Iraqi #Shiite militants, as well as “#weapons, #equipment, #training and #funds to #Afghan insurgents…and also arranges the delivery of lethal aid into #Syria and #Lebanon and military training for #Hezbollah and #Palestinian militants.”

9️⃣ Hence, the #QudsForce has expanded its network to include a tight unit for the sole purpose of targeting westerners.  The #Arbabsiar plot as well as those afterwards continue to show the #IRGC and Quds Force ambitions, though also indicative of their limits.

Ali Moghtaderi is a field operative in #QudsForce's #Unit400. He served in the #Basij in the past. Recruiting Basij personnel is a known MO of Quds Force.

1️⃣1️⃣ The #UnitedStates uncovered a plot to assassinate the #Saudi Ambassador inside #Washington, D.C. that also tracked to #Unit400. #FBI counterintelligence managed to infiltrate the operation and capture $100,000 in transferred funds intended for the assassins.

1️⃣2️⃣ #Iran can always proclaim innocence when #Hezbollah or #Shi’a militias in #Iraq carry out terror attacks or commit #warcrimes.  Presumably the attempt to hire a #Mexican cartel to carry out an assassination on #US soil.
