one of the most bizarre aspects from the 1990s #technology / #Internet boom was how it somehow managed to convince a whole lot of optimistic and uncritical people in media (and business) that humanity had somehow entered a "post-industrial" age.

computers and electronic devices are *manufactured items*, requiring a massive industrial base in order to function—and yet somehow it was easy for gullible editorialists and entrepreneurial grifters to talk as though the digital world had somehow *replaced* all that.

the #programming nerd and #STEM-lord culture that arose seemed especially eager to believe that they'd miraculously done away with the need for mining and factories and skilled industrial labor, merely because they had @arduino and #3Dprinting to play with now.

My latest project files are now up on @printablescom. They are simple brackets for shelves. I generated a lot of files for my pages and also included a @RealThunder12 @FreeCADNews file that uses parameters to customize shelving to fit your needs.…
I made a separate page for the files that contain magic measurements. Since there are over 500 files between these two pages, I figured it made sense to separate them i to make it a little easier to navigate.…
I wanted to keep this project hardware-free, because I wanted to make it as accessible as possible. My fine motor skills in my right hand have gotten a lot better in the past years, but I still struggle at with small objects. #accessibility #3dprinting

"Fabricating #Clay: #Machines, #Materials, & #Code"

🧵 Today's SFI Seminar by @leahbuechley (@UNM):
"We build the geometry directly by thinking about the PATH that our 3D printer takes. There's no intermediate slicing software [to render CAD as "2D" layers]."

- @leahbuechley, #3DPrinting clay with a 1.5 mm nozzle
"You can start to think about surface textures - like spikes that you can't do with a traditional slicer.'s a path that's a sine wave, but every other layer is rotated. creature is following THIS path, and the other is chasing it around."

A popular destination for 3d artists,Archviz artists and others.
Download 3dmodels, get printable models and done VR/AR services.
One of the best 3d models sites ever. Not only do you get to see the models better, you can also rotate around like you would in your native 3d software.

It's #EarthDay so today seems like a good day to share a quick overview of my book, Brave Green World, which I coauthored with Dr Chris Forman (1/17)
With an almost constant stream of scary environmental news, it can be easy to feel disheartened. There are solutions to the environmental crisis - but it requires a rethink of our relationship with matter and energy.
In #BraveGreenWorld, Chris and I set out to understand how we can combine old wisdom with new technology to make our economy more like a natural ecosystem - recycling everything locally and producing next to no waste.

#Breaking #3Dprinting #Thread

@iiscbangalore researchers, addressing challenges of present techniques of obtaining metal powder, a major source for #3Dprinting has identified an alternative, low-cost technique to produce the same. To be useful across sectors. 1/n
Pointing out #3Dprinting creates objects by addition of material, layer by layer, @iiscbangalore said metal powders are predominantly produced using a technique called atomisation, in which a molten metal stream is broken up into fine droplets using air or water jets. 2/n
“However, despite its widespread use, atomisation returns poor yield, is expensive & inflexible in types of materials it can handle. A team led by Koushik Viswanathan, asst prof, dept of mechanical engg (DME), has identified a technique that side-steps these problems… 3/n

Making functional parts with 3D printing resin, a thread:
My latest project: was entirely made with Anicubic basic clear resin it gave me great results but many parts broke during the build, most of them while fastening bolts or adjusting parts.
Lots of people were surprised about how far I went with resin printed parts and complained about its brittleness. I just design the parts and handled them accordingly.

Nonton lagi film #TheLakeHouse".

Today while hearing Mann ki Baat @narendramodi with my father. My father a physician who served in AMC, Indian Army, & 1971 war veteran asked me, why don't I make a ppt of what the PM is speaking. I thought why not. A picture can say 1000 words. So, after 10 hours here it is

(3) We now 75 years old since Independence, but India/Bharat is far older. We need to know all unsung heroes’ stories, so that we know how many sacrificed to provide this freedom. To celebrate this freedom #AmritMahotsav 75 lakh+ National Anthem participants. @MinOfCultureGoI

So, I got admitted into the UofS for a PhD in biomedical engineering with focus on synchrotron X-ray imaging and biomechanics in 2012. This was at the start of the 4th Industrial Revolution (began in 2011). And 9 months into the PhD program, I evaluated and couldn’t fit my
biomechanics major into any of the Industry 4.0 technologies & synchrotron x-rays seem to be a technology for the distant future. I was so worried and started looking at what else I could do (based on my background) that fits into any of the 140 technology swimlanes.
Then, I found 3D-printing and with my background in physics, I was vast in Material Science and took a minor in this during my MSc. So, I decided to approach the head of #3Dprinting lab at the UofS in an email with all my transcripts and detailed out my value. He said yes but you

My next books will be late.

I am devoting time to designing & fabricating new PPE & #3Dprinting medical devices.

If you can do #cosplay, #props, etc., please make masks, PPE gowns, face shields & esp. PAPR.

PAPR can be fabbed w/PC fans, phone rechargers & shower caps.
Look up "homemade papr" & there are many videos. Also check .stl sites for masks.

Please focus reusability & comfort. Bad PPE can mangle a caregiver's face, making them open to infections.

Just as valuable, make QoL things for them, too. Get kids to make them thank-you notes.
Nextly, as the hertasi say, "Style Always Counts." The saying is b/c if something is designed & made well, it can be inherently pleasing.

Add bits of trim that say "I Care" or "I'm Here To Help." If you want #gamers to wear your masks, make'm nerdy.

Even though I haven't been a big fan of Twitter threads so far, a lot of people I know have made 100-tweet threads for @threadapalooza so I thought I'll give it a try as well. I will start with #APIs and hopefully end up connecting them with the #FutureOfWork. Let's go ...

First of all, when I talk about #APIs, I mean HTTP-based interfaces connecting apps and backend servers as well as different services with each other. For now, the technical details, such as whether they use REST, GraphQL, gRPC etc., shall not matter. (1/100)
When humans interact with computers they require a user interface (UI), and when machines interact with each other they need application programming interfaces (APIs). At the end of the day, however, these have to be implemented by humans. Good #APIDesign considers both. (2/100)
